*TW: gore and blood*

Carter scowled as she pulled the branches away from her face, sputtering as some of the leaves got in her mouth. She frowned in confusion as she stood in the same field where they had fought the newborns. Only now there was a thick layer of snow covering the clearing.

She hesitated for a moment before stepping forward and looking around.

Why was she here? Why didn't she remember coming here?

She spun in a circle slowly, letting out a loud gasp as she spotted a man standing a few paces away from her with his back turned to her. She stiffened up, her guard going up as she called out, “Who are you?” she yelled but got no answer.

Carter thought for a minute before she decided to step forward, the image of the guy becoming clearer as she did so, the boy seemed awfully familiar to Carter but for some reason, she didn’t want to trust him.

She put a hand on his shoulder to catch his attention, “Edward?” she called making the boy turn around as she took in a sharp breath.

Her eyes widened as she backed away. The blood-red eyes and pale white skin of Nathan Harper stared back at her with an evil grin on his face. He stepped forward menacingly as a light sliced across Carter’s features, highlighting her tense jaw and the flicker of fear in her eyes. She blinked, turning her head away from the bright light and her eyes fell on a shard of mirror in Nathan’s hand, it was jagged and worn, and rested delicately in his palm.

Carter’s eyes widened as she saw the object, her mind flashing back to the horrid night she had relived so many times in her dreams. The man continued to take small steps forward, “oh Carter,” he smiled lovingly, bringing his hand out to touch her cheek gently. Carter flinched, leaning away from his touch but she didn't dare to stop him.

She whimpered softly, her lips trembling as tears gathered in her eyes and she shook. Her scar had begun to hurt in a scorching manner as if someone had reopened her wound. “You look so beautiful,” Nathan mumbled before his eyes changed in a split second and he lunged at her, the shard of mirror cutting her skin exactly where it had two years ago.

Carter screamed loudly, falling to the ground from the force as blood gushed down her face and on her clothes. Her hands trembled horribly as she tried to stop the bleeding. Her wound had been cut open again. And for some reason, her healing wasn’t kicking in, nor was the scent of her blood affecting Nathan.

She blinked wildly, her eyes wide in fear as Nathan hovered above her with a fascinated expression, watching her gleefully. She watched as he brought his hand up, the mirror glinting mockingly, “I can finally finish it this time.” he grinned and Carter shook her head, her voice didn’t seem to work as she mouthed ‘no’ over and over again.

She watched as he brought the shard down, aiming at her throat.

Carter gasped loudly as she sat up in bed, clutching her throat tightly as she tried to take in as much air as possible. Her scar seared painfully and she was covered in sweat, her eyes wide as she looked around her surroundings, highly alert.

The sound of someone shuffling behind her caused her to whip her head around, ready to jump out of bed but the sight of a half-naked paul was all she was met with. She sighed in relief, digging her hand into her hair as she closed her eyes for a minute.

The sound of shuffling caused her to turn back around and Paul opened one eye and groaned softly as he saw Carter sitting up. He got up slightly, leaning on his elbow as he grabbed her waist. She smiled softly as he hummed, “what's wrong?” he asked, his voice hoarse and gruff as he looked her over, “do you need anything? Is it your arm, does it hurt?”

She smiled, pushing him to lay back on the bed as she whispered, “I’m fine, darling,” she whispered, leaning down to kiss his cheek, “it was just a bad dream, that's all…” she muttered.

Paul hummed as he grabbed her hand and pulled her down to lay down with him, his bare chest against her back as he nuzzled closer to her. Her imprint immediately began to snore softly again and Carter silently wondered if it really was just a bad dream.

Carter yawned as she walked in through the front door of her house, Jack peeked out from the kitchen, “oh good you're home,” he muttered as Carter dragged her feet into the kitchen and stole a piece of bacon from her dad’s plate.

“How was your slumber party?” Jack asked, wiggling his eyebrows and Carter groaned, “Ugh, Dad stop, that’s gross.” she muttered and he nodded.

“Oh by the way, Billy called, apparently Jacob ran off this morning,” Carter frowned, “what do you mean ‘ran off’?” she asked and Jack nodded at a small card that sat on the kitchen counter.

She picked it up, “huh,” she nodded, “I guess they really are going through with it.” she put it back down and grabbed some coffee for herself. It was a wedding invitation, Edward and Bella’s wedding invitation.

She shook her head, “Well then, I'm gonna go take a shower and then head off to Sam’s.” she told him and her dad nodded.

As she walked up the stairs and into her room, she let out a heavy sigh and groaned before moving into the bathroom. She stared at her scar in the mirror, her mind flashing back to the dream she had last night, Nathan with blood-red eyes and pale skin. A vampire.

She wondered what it could mean.

As she walked into Sam and Emily’s cabin, she spotted Theo sitting on the couch, Emily and Leah on either side of her as they tried their best to comfort her, the blonde looked rightfully distressed as she bounced her knee continuously.

Carter walked up to her, kneeling in front of her, she rested her hand on Theo’s knee, causing the girl to stop as she looked up at her friend, carter gave her a soft smile, “hey, Dora,” she mumbled, “it’ll be ok,” she tried to reassure her, “we’ll find him for you.”

Theo shook her head, “he didn't even stop for a second,” she whispered, “he just ran out the door and shifted. I mean… did he not think of me for even a second?” she asked, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

Carter huffed, standing up she turned to face her pack, “I know we should let him calm down, but what he just did is completely unacceptable and we have to try at least to find him.” she told them and Sam nodded, “she’s right, it was irresponsible of Jacob to just run off no matter how angry he is.” he said.

Carter nodded, “Alright gang, we have a wolf to hunt.” she mumbled.
