“Shit,” Carter murmured as she watched the brown wolf run into the forest, she grabbed Alice’s arm, “keep your doors locked and stay near Bella,” she ordered. 

“Jacob!” she called, not bothering to use the door as she jumped over the low balcony and shifted midair, running after Jacob who did not seem to care about anything or anyone at the moment. 

“Jake!” she called, as the younger boy howled loudly, she tried her best to catch upto him although her pace seemed to falter as the sounds of the other wolves howling reached her ears. She growled lowly but continued to follow the wolf all the way back to La Push. 

The voices of the rest of the pack chanting the boy's name entered her head as they reached a more secluded part of the beach. The rest of her pack rushed in from all sides as the pair came to a stop. 

“Is it true Jacob?” 

“What is it?” 

“It's growing fast!”

“It's unnatural.” 

“Dangerous.” 

“An abomination. On our land.” 

“We can't allow it.” Carter watched the pack circle around them, growling at each other as they all expressed their hostility towards the creature growing in Bella’s womb. 

The sound of Sam growling loudly grabbed their attention as their alpha stood straight, “we have to protect the tribe,” he said, “what they've bred won’t be able to control its thirst. Every human will be in danger.” 

“We’re ready!” 

“No time to waste!” 

Jacob tensed as he glanced toward Carter, “now?” he asked. 

“We must destroy it before it’s born.” 

Seth stepped forward, “you mean, kill Bella?” he asked worriedly as Carter growled, stepping forward. 

“Sam, wait-” 

“Her choice affects us all.” 

“Bella’s human. Our protection applies to her as well.” 

Leah snarled, “She’s dying anyway!” 

Jacob growled loudly, lashing out towards Leah as he pushed her to the ground. Carter growled loudly, snapping her teeth in their direction causing Jacob to scurry away from the white wolf. 

“That's enough!” she yelled as Leah got up and shook her head. 

“We have real enemies to fight tonight.” 

“Tonight?” 

Sam prowled towards Jacob, snarling lowly, “You will fight with us, Jake.” he ordered but stopped short as Carter stepped in front of the younger boy and faced Sam, “I said that's enough, Sam.” she muttered. 

“Carter…” she heard her imprint's voice in the back of her head as he took a step forward cautiously. However, before he could take another step, Sam turned his head slightly and glared at the younger boy. Unable to disobey his alpha, Paul stayed put.
