Since Jacob had been picked to go along with the Cullens, Carter has been entrusted with the pack, although it wasn't a long trip, Jake needed someone to alert the pack about what was about to go down, and he had no doubt that Carter was the person for the job.

That's how she found herself in Sam and Emily's backyard, the entire pack standing around her in a semicircle, and Carter would not have been lying if she said this was the first time she had seen all of them so serious.

"The Volturi are no joke; the fact that they're coming here puts everyone in Forks and the Reservation in danger. I know the circumstances are far from likeable, but we need to work with the Cullens and any allies they bring along. Protecting our people is our priority..."

She looked around at all of them, and Leah was the first to speak, "We know that. But what about the bloodsuckers the Cullens bring along with them? How do we know they aren't the ones we need to protect against?"

"Carlisle will talk to them, he assured both Jake and me that he would make sure his friends do not pull anything stupid. There will be many ground rules they need to follow if they do decide to come here."

Most of the pack nodded along with her words, only half listening at that point. They all knew that they had to work together with the Cullens to keep everyone involved safe.

She clapped her hands together, "Great, now that we have that checked out... we need to start training extra hard, just in case a civil discussion doesn't cut it."

The pack seemed to light up at that; it seemed that killing vampires was something that could easily lift their mood, no matter the situation.

Carter looked at Sam, who nodded, stepping forward as he took the lead, breaking the pack apart in pairs to train. Carter sighed as she stepped back and turned around to walk back into the house. She smiled at Emily, who stood in the kitchen, the smell of freshly baked muffins making Carter's mouth water a little. She picked up her keys from the kitchen counter, smiling at Paul, who had walked in behind her and handed her her jacket, "will you please let Sam know im in town? I'm having dinner with my parents and i would not like to be late." she asked and emily smiled, nodding at her, "oh, take a muffin before you go." she called tossing her one which carter caught just in time, hissing at how hot it was.

As she left, she heard Emily smack Paul's hand away, "You can have one when you're done training like the rest of your brothers." Carter chuckled at that, and Paul pouted but relented nonetheless before following Carter out of the house.

He held the truck door open for her, watching her with soft eyes as she put all of her stuff in the passenger seat and settled into the driver's seat herself. She turned back to look at Paul, smiling softly as she leaned forward and placed a long, gentle kiss on his lips. She caressed his cheekbone softly, "I'll see you tonight," she whispered, and Paul hummed, answering her with another kiss.

"Drive safe," he called, closing the door for her, and she winked as she pulled out of the driveway.

Carter entered the diner, looking around for her parents and nodded as she saw her father wave her over from a table in the far end. She walked over, placing a kiss on each of their cheeks before she settled in with them.

Carter was halfway through her steak when her father spoke up, "So, Billy told me, about everything that's happening with the Cullens..."

Carter stuffed a spoonful of mashed potatoes into her mouth and swallowed quickly before replying, "Did he?" she asked, cutting up her steak, "and what did he say?" she asked.
