Sand had gotten the first aid kit from Ink and returned to Ray's room as quickly as he could. His heart was racing, hundreds of emotions were flowing through his body, but his focus was on Black and his injury. Together, Ray and Sand tried to treat the injury to Black's head as best they could.

"Black, I think you need to go to the hospital with this." Sand could hear the concern in Ray's voice. Black was responsive enough to shake his head vehemently when Ray made this suggestion. "Okay, no hospital. You should rest, and we'll talk tomorrow?" Black closed his eyes in response. And a short time later he seemed to have fallen asleep. Ray placed a few more towels under Black's head and changed the bloody blanket before taking off his friend's shoes and covering him up. Sand watched the whole situation unfold from a little distance. It was like he was watching a movie, he was an only an outsider, looking in.

"Sand?" Ray brought him out of his reverie. "Can I sleep in your room tonight? I don't feel like explaining to Ink why exactly we need another room. Don't worry, I sleep on a mattress on the floor, we have one in the closet in every room." Sand swallowed hard, but of course he agreed with Ray's suggestion, extraordinary situations required extraordinary measures.

"Can you borrow some of your clothes for me to sleep in?" Sand turned to Ray. "Mine are covered in blood." He looked at his beige shirt, which was now adorned with dark red spots.

"Of course, I have to change into something else too." Ray went to his closet and dug out two fresh t-shirts and a pair of short sweatpants for them.

Before leaving the room, they made sure Black was okay. And left Ray's phone on call with Sand in the room, that way they would be able to hear, if something happened, through Sand's phone.

When they got to Sand's room, both of them changed into the fresh clothes, before preparing Ray's bed together. A little later, the two of them were lying in bed, staring at the ceiling while listening to Black's soft snoring through the phone.

"There can't be a day when everything goes well for us, right?" Ray's voice cut the silence in the room.

"It seems the universe is conspiring against us," Sand replied.

"Then we have to make the best of it again, huh?" Ray smiled into the darkness. "At least Black is back, I really wonder what happened to him."

"He means a lot to you, doesn't he?" Sand had turned on his side, facing Ray, who was laying on the mattress next to his bed.

"Black?"

"Who else?"

"He means a very much to me. I told you he saved my life. Differently than you did. But without him, I wouldn't be here today." Ray's voice sounded like it was far away, on another planet or in another universe.

"I see," Sand couldn't understand, but he didn't want to start a fight either.

"Sand, I know you don't understand, and that's perfectly fine. I hope I can explain it to you in a better, understandable way one day. But I'm not far enough along with the therapy yet." Ray sat down on his mattress, his eyes locked with those of sand. "Will you wait for that day, please?" Sand swallowed hard, the underlying anxiety in Ray's voice tightening his throat.

"Of course, I will be here when you find a way to explain it to me, so I can understand better."

"I don't deserve you to still be so nice to me," Ray murmured, laying back down, still looking at Sand. A gentle smile formed on Sand's lips.

"Maybe not, but I don't care. You mean something to me, Ray. And I also did a lot of things that you didn't have to forgive me." Ray swallowed hard. It was wonderful to hear that from Sand. Even though the guilt consumed him, he was glad that he apparently wasn't alone with that.
