It was one of those jam sessions in which Black, Summer, and Sand had incredible fun together. Ray sat on a shabby sofa drinking a Coke as he watched and listened to the three others playing their instruments together. He thought they looked perfect, Summer was brilliant on the bass and Ray was, as always, fascinated by how well Black played the drums, but most of his attention was on Sand, his voice, and lips. Sometimes it was as if Sand was singing just for him, as if the two of them were in the rehearsal room.
Ray was usually responsible for providing the other three with drinks and food when they were in the rehearsal room. Most of the time they were there together late into the night, occasionally Longtae would join them and he and Ray would cheer for their partners.
The atmosphere in the rehearsal room was always good, and relaxed, and it rarely happened that Summer, Black, and Sand had differences of opinion, even though the three of them couldn't be more different."We should make this official," Black looked at his friends. Sand was leaning against the sofa, Ray was leaning against him between his legs, and Summer had taken a pillow on which she was sitting. The friends were sitting on the floor together, eating.
"Make it official? What do you mean?" Summer looked at Black in confusion. He put his food on the floor and pointed to their instruments.
"The band. We should think about making the band official. I mean with regular rehearsals and performances and so on. We could write our own songs and..."
"Black, take a deep breath." Sand interrupted the other's flow of speech. "Are you serious about this?" Black looked at Sand as if he had just announced that the sky was green.
"Of course I'm serious, you idiot, otherwise I wouldn't say it!" He lit a cigarette, stood up and started walking around the rehearsal room, gesturing wildly with his arms. "I mean, think about how great that would be if this worked for us. I know we would have to invest a lot in the band, but wouldn't that be a dream?" He looked at the others, a glint in his eyes that they rarely saw in Black's eyes, if they were honest, this moment was the first time they had seen the other so enthusiastic.
"I'm for it," Ray turned to Sand and grinned. "I always wanted to be the boyfriend of a famous rock star."
"First, you have to become my boyfriend," Sand replied and gently flicked Ray in the forehead with his finger.
"Then finally ask me," Ray groaned, crossing his arms.
"Can you stop flirting, I'm trying to start a band here," Black complained and sat back down on the floor with the others.
"I'm in if you are." Summer examined Sand. "I love jamming and hanging out with you guys. Music is my passion, and I know music is your passion too, Sand. We should try it, don't you think?" Sand's gaze shifted between Summer and Black before he began to nod.
"Let's do it," Sand gently pushed Ray away and stood up, raising his glass. "Let's start this band." Summer and Black also stood up and clinked sand. Ray also joined them.
"Just so you know, I'm already your biggest and your first fan, don't forget me when you're famous, okay?" Sand put an arm around Ray.
"How could we forget you, trouble." He kissed Ray on the temple. "You are our most important member, you make sure we stay motivated."
"Speak for yourself, Sand, I would like to throw up permanently while you're flirting with each other." Black laughed and took a drag from his cigarette.
"We need a name." Summer tilted her head. "A good name."
"The Ex-Flings," Black blurted out. Sand rolled his eyes and gave Black a gentle fist on the shoulder. Even though the name was hilarious, he didn't want to be a constant reminder of the whole situation, at least not any more than he already was.
