somewhere in the haze

He finds himself lost in the dark and feels the sudden urge to something very unlike himself.

The sudden urge to panic.

He hears her, her laughter and her calling out his name and then it turns into a horrendous scream.

And then with her scream are the cries of their daughter.

His tears flow out as he walks here and there in the dark, stumbling, choking out words to tell them he's here and they'll be okay.

But then he sees fire and them and his chest tightens as he tries to run but cannot.

As if they're both stuck in an image, and he can't walk in.

He jolts awake.

There's a warm hand on his chest and lots of brown hair and he lets out an exhale as he thanks heavens.

His eyes move to the crib by the curtains and hears the cries erupting in the room.

He hears her sleep-laden voice next.

"Vianne's awake."

He nods and caresses her hair, placing a kiss on her hair before slipping out of the bed and walking to the crib.

He lets out an exhale as he smiles and feels his eyes burn.

He carries her out of the crib and places her on his chest and starts humming while rocking back and forth to put her to sleep again.

The cries last a while before subsiding as he continues to hum a lullaby while looking down at his daughter who's on the brink of sleep.

Soon, there's silence as the little one's lulled back to sleep and he stops humming.

Slowly walking back to the crib, he places her down on the crib's mattress gently and after a kiss on her little forehead and chubby cheeks, he makes it back to the bed.

He looks at his wife-Cha Young, sits upright, closes his eyes to shake the unwavering thoughts away.

He mutters a prayer once he's laid down, and she's noticed his presence and made it back in his arms.

A prayer for forgiveness and for the blessing he's been showered upon despite his deeds.

Her hands pat his back in a soothing motion, and he smiles.

She knows him all too well.
