Chapter 8

Today is Sunday, my first day of work as a part-time server and my first day of torture as well. Although I should be grateful since I found a job, but the fact that I need to interact with customers all day has already drained my energy. But it's okay. It's not like I have a choice anyway.

Also, I practiced a lot last night. How to properly greet customers, what the right responses are if they have questions, or if I make a mistake with their order. Things like that.

Last night, in the middle of my practice, the manager of the branch where I'll be working suddenly called me. They said they'll be transferring me to a branch at SM because they need more servers there. It's a bit far from my apartment and school, pero aangal pa ba ako?

SM opens at 10:00 but our calltime is 9:00. That is why I am currently preparing na even though 7:30 palang ng umaga. As always, traffic starts at 8 and I don't want to be late on my first day.

Nang matapos ako't lahat-lahat, lumabas na ako and I stand outside my apartment waiting for a jeep. That only took 3 minutes of waiting bago ako nakasakay.

Nakarating ako sa SM at may security guard doon na nagbabantay sa entrance. The manager told me kagabi na sabihan lang daw 'yung guard na new employee ako ng Maulives Café and Favorites para papasukin ako.

And so I did what I was told. That didn't took long at kaagad din naman akong pinapasok.

Now my goal here is to find the café. The manager didn't told me where I can find the shop. I should've asked him last evening but dahil nahihiya ako, ayan Jesh, magdusa ka. Hanapin mo mag-isa.

I should've also asked the guard nalang sana pero sobrang layo na ng nilakad ko. Katamad maglakad pabalik.

It took me around 20 minutes more na paglalakad before ko mahanap 'yung café. Takte! Nasa 3rd floor pala ng mall!

I went inside and the staffs working there immediately recognized me. They greeted me in unison and all I could do as a response is to smile at them.

Kinakabahan ako!

"Hi Jesh! I'm Shawn and I am the manager here. The manager at the main branch referred you to me and since we lacked servers, I accepted you. Welcome to Maulives Café and Favorites!"

"T-thank you po." I said as I put my best smile although I find it awkward doing that.

"Here's your uniform. One for Saturday, and one for Sunday. May CR doon, magpalit ka na."

Tumango ako and quickly headed towards the restroom.

Fast forward to 3:00 in the afternoon, and I’ve just noticed the increase in customers. I’ve already had lunch since there’s free lunch for all the staffs here, which is actually a good thing. It helps me save more. I could’ve passed out in the middle of serving our customers if I hadn’t eaten something.

To be honest, even at 12:00, I was already extremely drained of energy. But I think I can still handle it. It’s not new to me since I’ve done this before when I was helping out with charities. It’s just that it’s happening again now, so I needed to practice last night.

Fast forward again to around 5 in the afternoon. While serving one table, bigla nalang akong napalingon sa entrance at nagulat ako nang makitang pumasok doon 'yung Clint ata 'yung name at 'yung extroverted niyang kaibigan na gustong-gustong makipagkaibigan sa'kin.

'Di ko nalang sila pinansin at nagpatuloy nalang sa pagkukuha ng orders at pag-seserve. 'Yun lang ang ginawa ko hanggang sa bigla nalang akong tinawag ni ate na cashier.
