Third person pov

Atsushi was born deaf, and for some reason his parents didn't want a deaf baby so they got rid of them, which means they threw him in a trash and the headmaster found him and took him to the orphanage. Atsushi ability wasn't discovered until he was a bit older, the headmaster couldn't get rid of atsushi so he just left atsushi in the basement of the orphanage. The headmaster would often scream at atsushi but atsushi couldn't heard anything so he just stare, which would make the headmaster more mad and he would hit atsushi.

It was always like this until atsushi was save by fukuzawa. The orphanage was being investigated, the detectives found it odd that it was middle of the woods so they started to investigate. Which is when they found atsushi in the basement with many bruises and old blood on them. clearly have been starved as well. Atsushi didn't say anything at all, he just stare, at first fukuzawa thought that atsushi was mute or something but once atsushi was check by yosano, they found out he was deaf.

"He deaf, he can't hear anything. He doesn't know sign language or how to read lips, the boy probably doesn't even know how to write too." yosano explained, fukuzawa just sigh, his felt bad for atsushi, atsushi was sound sleep in the hospital bed. "We will get him some hearing aids." Fukuzawa said, yosano didn't look surprised and she just nodded, ranpo was also in the room and he just say nothing but he felt bad for the boy. Atsushi was checked by another doctor that specializes in hearing aids and everything else, once it was confirm that atsushi was deaf, he was allowed to get hearing aids.

Yosano just slowly put the hearing aids on atsushi, atsushi could hear everything, it was very overwhelming for atsushi. Atsushi didn't understand anything, he wasn't taught anything so he mostly cried for a while, which yosano has expected. They all knew it was going to take a long time for atsushi to get used to it, fukuzawa was fully prepared for this, he wasn't going to abandon atsushi. Ranpo just sit there, not sure how to comfort atsushi, yosano just rub atsushi back, she didn't want to get too close because atsushi was traumatized as well.

Atsushi slowly got used to hearing thing, they were also teaching him how to read and write so atsushi could start to communicate though paper, once atsushi learn how to read most words, he starts a class on how to learn signs language. Fukuzawa was very proud of atsushi, both yosano and ranpo were also proud as well. Atsushi was in the agency building, there was two new members and atsushi has never met them before and they never met atsushi.

(Katai was actually a member on the agency once)

Atsushi just look at ranpo, ranpo knew what atsushi was asking. "The blonde one with glasses is kunikida, and the other one is katai." ranpo said, atsushi just nod, he was using his hearing aid so he can hear, both kunikida and katai just stare at atsushi, wondering who he was. "Hello, I'm atsushi." Atsushi signs, both katai and kunikida immediately realized he was deaf because atsushi was using sigh language, Lucky enough kunikida actually knew sign language but sadly katai didn't.  "He said hello and that his name is atsushi katai." Kunikida said, katai just nodded, atsushi just smile.

Katai learned how to use some sign language to communicate to atsushi, it was never a requirement to learn but atsushi like how katai put the effort into learning and it made things a lot easier. Even when katai left the agency, he still knew sigh language, atsushi would visit katai sometimes, kunikida also was always with atsushi when visiting katai.

When dazai joined the agency, he didn't want to learn sign language because he thought it would be too hard. Ranpo just stare at dazai as dazai whine about it being so hard. "No!! It too hard!!" Dazai whine, kunikida just say nothing, he wasn't pay to deal with this. "no one can force him to learn ranpo.." Atsushi sign, ranpo just grumbles and looks away, kunikida just sigh, they couldn't force him to learn sign language. "You can't be mad ranpo, I don't care if dazai doesn't learn." Atsushi sign, atsushi didn't really care, ranpo just pout.

For a few weeks after that, it was really hard for dazai to talk to atsushi, atsushi could use his voice but it was very hard sometimes so he always mostly use sign language. Dazai finally decided to learn sign language, atsushi was grateful. "Good job dazai." atsushi sign and then he pat dazai head, dazai just stare of into space, both yosano and ranpo just laughed in the back ground, dazai has a praise kink. "Dazai?" Atsushi sign, dazai decided that atsushi was now his favorite person for some reason.

The other members that joined were completely fine learning sign language and atsushi was very grateful. "Good job kenji" atsushi sign, atsushi was proud of kenji for using sign language, kenji is just a kid. In the background, dazai was pouting because atsushi wasn't giving him attention and kunikida just shake his head. "Idiot.." Kunikida whisper as he goes back to his work, while dazai just pout.

Atsushi life was going well, the agency love atsushi and atsushi is no different.
