Chapter Eighteen
...

"You'll just kill us both." Suneater yelled, hoping he could reach the humanity dwelling beneath the robbers' outer layer. "If you surrender, we can live to see the next day." Suneater wasn't afraid to die, but he didn't want to die an unnecessary death. He needed to catch up to Mirio, to die crushed under the rubble like common trash was an insult to his ability.

"You're a hero, don't you run on hope and good luck." Dabi sneered the venom in his words on full display. "Let's get the facts straight. You thought this was just some easy task, and now that you've taken a bite out of something, you can't swallow you want to take it back." Dabi said, his voice filled with hated.

Tamaki couldn't disagree with Dabi's words, he had thought this was easy, but he wasn't doing it to save his own skin. While he would be saved, it would also save the lives of others. The only action that would keep the greatest number of people safe is to stop the fight. "You would throw your life away to prove a point, what about robbing the bank." He asked extremely desperate to understand Dabi and his motivations.

"I'm going to kill you, hero, then the robbery will be completed, and I'll be richer what deeper motivations I have are the very least of your concerns." Dabi said calmly as he raised the power of the flames.

Suneater didn't stand a chance as he was hit with flames repeatedly as they tore through his skin and burned his body. He did his best to try and injure Dabi, but the smoke and flames were blocking his vision. He needed help, but he knew no help would come unless the building fell. If he took down the building, then Dabi would he stopped but innocents would die.

Suneater weighed the choice in his mind, to save or destroy the evil. He wondered what Mirio would do, how he would handle this situation. He imagined him standing tall and proud over the situation. Mirio would have put his life on the line and would gladly give it up even if it only saved a single life. To Mirio, another person was worth everything he had and would have the chance to experience.

As a friend of Mirio, he knew he couldn't dishonor what his friend stood for. A smile crept across his face as he lept forward, crossing through the flames as Dabi ran a flame covered hand into his chest. The pain was enormous, yet Suneater didn't stop moving as he felt Dabi's arm sink deeper and deeper into his body. The flames wrapped around Suneater's insides, causing his body to overheat as he tried his best to regulate his temperature with his quirk.

"Tell me, hero, what is your name." Dabi asked certain of his victory.

Suneater looked at Dabi as he felt his core temperature rise. With a defiant face he gazed into Dabi's eyes and smiled. "I'm Suneater the one who saved innocents from your evil." The words left him as Dabi looked over Suneater's shoulder, seeing the doors to the bank being open.

He looked around, whipping his head from side to side as he realized all of the hostages had fled as his focus left, keeping them isolated and the door blocked. It meant that they would soon gather the attention of heroes, and with one dead hero, it meant that a horde would come for him. This was the absolute worst case scenario, but as he looked up, he saw that the banks collapse was imminent.

"You'll pay for this." Dabi growled only to realize Suneater had died, the fire consumed his insides, and all Dabi was left with was a corpse. He had sacrificed himself to save lives knowing his body, and all he was would be buried and forgotten by society. The realization dug deep into Dabi, but he didn't dwell on the realization for long.

Plans needed to be adjusted as Dabi realized more pro heroes would arrive soon. He had figured there would be a mistake, but from Hawks or Izuku. Yet he was the one who had miscalculated Suneater's resolve. His spirit was strong, it wouldn't bend and fold under pressure or dismay from failure. While he had made a mistake, it wouldn't ruin the robbery, and he would make sure all three of them escaped.

He entered a service duct just as a chunk off roof fell to the ground. The chunk sprayed debries and dust all over the bank, covering the scotch marks and blood from the battle. The bank wouldn't stand for much longer, but the plan would either succeed or lead to the deaths of every member of Dabi's crew.

"I will not fail." He said solemnly.
