AFTER BUCKY WAS sent to England. And after Steve filled out many fraud enlistment forms. He was finally accepted for the Army.
And was sent to the training base where the SSR was determined to find the best candidate for the serum.
Erskine had wanted Steve to be the first super soldier. Which Colonel and a few of the other Army officials found Steve unfit for the role.
Erskine had thought differently after seeing his bravery shine through when he jumped over a fake grenade. And thats when they knew the perfect candidate for the serum
MARIE AND PEGGY WERE eating their lunch at a small table as Peggy informed Marie of Steve covering the grenade with his scrawny frame.
"He curled right into that grenade. Not even knowing it was a test. " Peggy spoke gushing about his bravery as Marie looked to her. "Sounds like you got a crush Peg" Marie teased as Peggy gasped at her.
"Marie Barnes!" She scolded her as Marie giggled and took a sip of her coke. Her cherry red lipstick leaving a print on the straw. "Dont act like I dont see the lingering glances between you and Stark" Peggy's lips turned into a smile as Marie stared at her.
"Im going to pretend that those words never left your mouth" She simply replied and took a bite out of her sandwich.
"So there is nothing between you too?" She asked again as Marie gave her a look. "If you think pure hatred is a sign of love." Marie deadpanned as Peggy snickered at the girls comment.
"Alright if you insist" Peggy replied as wiped her mouth with a napkin and reaching in her purse for her signature red lipstick. "I insist" Marie said confidently as Peggy and her giggled.
THE DAY OF Steves procedure finally arrived. Steve stood on the balcony of the lab with Peggy as all the scientists looked up at him and the room went silent. Marie exhaled a breath as she glanced to a nervous Peggy watching Steve closely.
As the two walked down the metal stairs and made their way to the main platform. Marie gave Peggys shoulder a reassuring squeeze and Peggy flashed her a thankful smile.
"Mr. Stark how are your levels?" Erskine called out as Marie watched Steve get into the machine. After all these late nights and early mornings she hoped that this would really work. "Levels at 100%" Howard answered and walked over to Steve.
