Episode 3

Chen Yi woke up with a start , like a bear woke up from hibernation , slow , confused and dumbfounded by the noise around him.

They sounded as if they were coming from behind a curtain , cut off from him , hidden behind a wall of fog and darkness.

"You..."

A sharp voice rang out , cutting like a blade , with a hint of threat between them.

"You said he was about to wake up , but he doesn't move!"

Why was Eddie's voice the first thing he heard after death? And why even though the rest of the world still seemed strange and confusing to him , did he have no problem introducing Eddie while he was talking?

Why was it so easy to understand his voice , to understand his words?

Chen Yi doesn't want to look up , want sit all to be the dream he thought it was last night , he would regain the joy of having Eddie if it meant that Chen Yi was still alive in this world and could have him at all.

Chen Yi felt himself groan involuntarily , and suddenly someone was there , right next to him , warm skin pressed against cold skin , labored breathing giving him a new rhythm.

"Chen Yi."

"I told you so." This must be the nurse.

"He is waking up , but it takes time. However , his heart is working and his still fine."

Chen's hand grabbed him and he was so weak that he wanted to grab it.

"He should be fine." Said a familiar gruff voice.

"He must."

"He will." The nurse replied "Just give him time."

"He's already needed several days."

Eddie whispered , sending a shiver through Chen Yi's exhausted body.

"I need him to come back."

Days?

This word was stuck in Chen Yi's head , and his mind was spinning around him. Was he unconscious for a couple of days?

Has he been dead for many years?

Because it was supposed to be the after life , wasn't it?

This thought struck terror into his heart and Chen Yi tried to open his eyes , just a little , so that he could see , so that he could make sure that Eddie was okay.

And yet some selfish part of him , hidden deep in his veins , was giddy at being reunited with Eddie , at being around him again. Even if it was in the afterlife , even...

Eddie!

Chen Yi finally managed to open one eye , and the sigh of him , Eddie the person he who should be alive and well , attacked him first.

Eddie , his lips were moving but he couldn't speak , his throat was burning like he'd eaten the Carolinea Reaper.

"Water."

Eddie suddenly hurried , his face still a little blurry , but his voice was clear , his presence over whelming.

"He needs water."

"Not water."

Chen Yi wanted to say , still thinking about the chili pepper , but losing to the fatigue in his body.

Soon there was something wet , a cooling burning sensation on his lips , a drop of heaven in this strange state of his mind.
