21 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds.
Deafening silence rang throughout the chilly, dark classroom. This morning, Donnie decided upon himself to come early, settling into his seat and resting his head down for brief energy restoration. Although he was supposed to rest, he furrowed his eyebrows and scrunched his nose awkwardly. He felt strange.. this unknown feeling left him unsettled.
Donnie glanced, scanning around the room for any signs of strangeness to no luck. Upon this inspection, he concluded it was just him being tired and weary of the dark, chilly room. He lay his head back down, hazily fluttering his eyes shut. His mouth parted ever so slightly as a soft snore escaped through his teeth.
A dark figure, Frank, hovered over him, the lurking shadow making it much more darker around Donnie. His paw gently ruffled his soft brown hair, brushing Donnie's bangs away from his shut eyes. Beneath Frank's mask, his lips curled up into a sly smirk as he continued to watch Donnie sleep, rubbing his back in circles as a way of reassurance. He disappeared as soon as another student walked in through the door.
Unbeknownst to Donnie, a students sudden eruption jolted Donnie from his slumber as they slammed the door behind them. He shot an annoyed glance at his classmate who decided to enter so rudely, but they didn't bother to look his way. The school bell rung out throughout the halls and Donnie slowly but reluctantly turned his head back to his desk, taking the last couple of minutes he could to get rest before the first class began.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Donnie felt a finger poke at his back. "Donnie?" In response to his name being barley registered, he hummed softly but didn't awake from his deep slumber. "Donnie." The voice now more stern caught his attention.
"Hmm?.. Wha-" He groggily asked, picking his head up and leaning it up against his arm. Gretchen shot a look to the teacher then back to Donnie, indicating to look in front of him. Doing so, Donnie made eye contact with Ms. Pomeroy. Her arms crossed and her glasses perched a bit downwards. She gave a stern look around the class after a couple snickers were shared, "Quiet!"
She took a few steps towards Donnie's desk and tapped her pen on the surface of it, getting the boys attention. "Is whatever dream you were having more important than my class right now, Donnie?" She asked in a flat monotone voice. Donnie lowered his head, shaking it side to side, "No.." He parted his lips, eager to tell her about the peculiar dream he had just now, and how the morning felt so off but he said nothing. He swallowed his thoughts into a lump in his throat then gulped it down, finally glancing up to make eye contact with her.
"Good. Now, please stay awake." She instructed firmly but to Donnie, it was more of a command. A very hard command to follow, especially when he wanted to slip off to his strange dream that for included his new bunny friend, Frank. He sighed, pushing those thoughts away and reverted his gaze to the front of the class, where Ms. Pomeroy continued her teachings.
Gretchen kept her gaze on Donnie. Although Donnie probably didn't know, his facial expressions looked dull, upset even. Gretchen bit her lower lip worriedly then turned back to also focus on the teachers lesson, stealing glances every now and then to watch Donnie. 'Whats gotten into him?' She wondered.
------------------------------------------------------------------On his stroll back home, Donnie heard his name once again yelled from behind him. Gretchen jogged towards his side. He felt a sudden tension as she came up beside him.
"Hey, Gretchen." He maged to croak out as his outer lips curled into a soft smile, his eyebrows still remaining furrowed.
"Hey."
