AVNI'S POV :
I followed Mr. Gupta along with Ishan. Soon, we reached the staff room, and Mr. Gupta got seated.
Mr. Gupta said, "How was the test, Avni?"
I replied with a smile, "It went well. All thanks to your advice earlier" and then looked at Ishan.
Mr. Gupta replied, "That's good. I knew Ishan would never disappoint."
I honestly felt a little frustrated now, like why is this boy so hyped? Like why is everyone admiring him? But my thoughts were interrupted by the teacher.
He added, "We are holding a quiz competition tomorrow, here in the school. Students from other schools will be also joining. So, I want you and Ishan to participate in this for our school."
I replied, "But sir, I am new and I don't know much..."
He replied, "Don't worry, Avni. It's going to be an easy quiz game. It won't be that hard. I trust you."
I said, "But..."
He interrupted and said, "It's a good chance to show your knowledge, Avni. I will provide you with some materials. Prepare for the quiz from them, and trust me, it won't be hard. You guys can win prizes too."
I nodded and said, "Thank you, sir, for believing in me. I won't disappoint you."
He said, "Good. Come with me to the library, I will give you the materials. Just read them once before the quiz."
Then we all headed towards the library.
On the way, Ishan asked, "Sir, what happened to that guy who appeared in the quiz last time with me?"
The teacher replied, "Oh, him? He wasn't that good at studies. We just wanted someone to sit next to you, so we sent him. He has been ill for a few days, so he hasn't been coming to school. Do you have any problem?"
Ishan shook his head and replied, "No, no. I am fine. After all, Avni is a fast learner, she can definitely ace it."
And then whispered, "Even better than me."
Then we reached the library. The teacher started searching for the materials, and when he found them, he handed them to me.
"We have only one copy, so share it or get it photocopied," the teacher said.
"Thank you, sir," I said, and we both left the library.
"Send me the photos of the materials to my phone," Ishan said as we walked.
"I'll photocopy them, don't worry," I replied.
"No problem. Just send me th-" he started.
I interrupted him, "I don't use my phone much, and studying from it is distracting. I'll photocopy them and give them to you."
Saying this, I headed to the classroom. It was already break time, so everyone was in the canteen, eating their lunch. But Nidhi and Aaron were in the classroom, waiting for us.
Nidhi and I went to the canteen together, and I told her what happened in the staff room.
Nidhi said, eating, "Last time they gifted the winners vouchers along with trophies and medals. I wonder what they will give this time."
Aaron said, "I'll go for practice. You guys continue."
Ishan replied, "I'll join you."
And then they left. Nidhi and I talked while eating and then came back to our classroom. The class lasted for an hour. Then it was sports period.
Before going to the playground, I went to the staff room with Nidhi to make copies of the materials. After getting them, I placed them under my desk and headed to the ground.
The basketball team was practicing, and everyone was gathered around. Nidhi and I sat down on a bench a little far from the crowd. Nidhi talked a lot, and I listened to her patiently and happily.
"She is so happy and lively," I thought.
I spoke, "I feel so lucky to have you, Nidhi."
Nidhi replied, "Oh, that was so sudden, but thanks. Me too. I had some friends before you, but they were all just fake. I had Aaron and Ishan, but again, they are boys and don't really understand."
I replied, "You are my first friend, Nidhi, and honestly, I will never regret being friends with you."
Nidhi side-hugged me, and I hugged her back.
We got back to our class once the period was over. I handed the photocopied materials to Ishan, then went to the bus stop and caught a bus to reach home.
After reaching home, I read the materials given by the teacher, and soon it was dinner time. My parents were back from work, and we all sat down together at the dining table for dinner.
My dad asked, "You had a test today, right? How did it go?"
I replied, "It went well."
My dad asked, "How much do you think you'll score?"
I replied, "Not sure, but most probably 100%."
My mom said, "Good. So, you're not going to your extra classes now?"
I replied, "No, I won't. Also, the teacher gave my name for the quiz tomorrow."
My parents nodded and said to do my best.
Then I went back to my room and slept early since I had woken up early in the morning for the test. Before sleeping, I texted back Nidhi, who had sent me a "Good night 😴💤" message.
