Reaching his study, he poured himself a glass of whiskey. The warmth of the amber liquid was comforting as he settled into his chair. He pulled out a file from his desk, a dossier on the upcoming summit. The intricacies of diplomacy and international relations were a stark contrast to the tender moments he had shared with Anika.
He spent the next few hours immersed in the documents, the soft glow of the table lamp casting long shadows on his face. Despite the pressing matters at hand, his thoughts kept drifting back to Anika. Her laughter, her intelligence, her spirit – all of it filled him with a sense of peace and contentment.
As the night wore on, fatigue began to creep in. Devraj set down the file, his eyes closing momentarily. The image of Anika sleeping peacefully filled his mind. With a sigh, he stood up and made his way back to the bedroom.
The room was dark, save for the soft glow of the moon filtering through the curtains. Anika was still asleep, her breathing steady and rhythmic. He moved quietly towards the bed, careful not to disturb her. As he slipped beneath the covers, he felt her stir slightly.
"Dev?" she murmured, her voice barely a whisper.
"It's me," he replied softly, taking her hand in his.
She turned in her sleep, snuggling closer to him. Devraj smiled. In this moment, surrounded by the woman he loved, he felt a sense of peace and completeness he had never experienced before.
As the first rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains, Anika stirred, her eyelids fluttering open. Devraj was still asleep beside her, his face relaxed in slumber. A soft smile crept onto her lips as she reached out to trace the lines of his face.
He stirred, his eyes opening slowly. "Morning," he murmured, his voice husky with sleep.
Anika smiled. "Good morning," she replied, her voice soft. "You were sleeping so peacefully."
Devraj stretched, yawning lazily. "I could have slept all day," he admitted.
Anika laughed. "Me too."
They lay in bed for a few moments, simply enjoying each other's company. The world outside seemed distant and unimportant. Finally, Devraj broke the silence.
"I have a surprise for you," he said, his voice filled with excitement.
Anika's eyebrows raised. "A surprise?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Devraj nodded. "But you'll have to wait and see."
Anika smiled. "Okay, I'm intrigued," she said, leaning forward.
Devraj reached out and pulled her back down, his fingers tracing the outline of her face. "Just enjoy this moment," he said softly. "We have plenty of time for surprises."
Anika snuggled closer to him, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. It was moments like these, simple and intimate, that truly mattered.
A soft knock at the door interrupted their peaceful moment. "Your Highness, it's time to get ready," a voice called from the other side.
Devraj groaned playfully. "Already?"
Anika giggled. "Looks like our peaceful morning is over."
Devraj kissed her forehead. "For now," he promised. "But we'll have plenty more."
With that, he swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up. "I'll be back soon," he said, giving her one last kiss before heading to the bathroom.
Anika snuggled deeper into the pillows, a contented smile spreading across her face. She could feel the warmth of Devraj's kiss lingering on her skin. As she lay there, she couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this moment, for this man, and for the life they were building together.
A few minutes later, Devraj emerged from the bathroom, looking refreshed. He was dressed in a crisp white shirt, rolled sleeves, his hair still damp from the shower. A rudraksha chain adorned his neck, its beads glinting in the morning light, and a powerful aura emanated from him. The kadiyam on his hand, a symbol of his royal lineage, added to his imposing yet charismatic presence. Anika couldn't help but admire his effortless charm.
Her gaze fell on the kadiyem, a symbol of his royal heritage and the weight of responsibility it carried. A pang of guilt washed over her. For his love for her, he was willing to relinquish the throne, the legacy of his ancestors. It was a sacrifice of immense proportions.
"Dev," she began, her voice filled with emotion, "you don't have to do this for me."
Devraj took her hand, his eyes filled with understanding. "Shhh," he soothed. "It's my choice, Anika. I want this. More than anything."
He pulled her into a gentle embrace. "You're worth far more than any crown," he whispered.
Anika felt tears welling up in her eyes. She was overwhelmed by his love, his selflessness. In that moment, she knew she had found the love of her life, a man who would do anything for her.
"Ready?" he asked, extending a hand to her.
Anika took his hand, feeling a surge of excitement. The day ahead was filled with possibilities, and she was eager to face it with Devraj by her side.
As they made their way to the dining room, Devraj's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and signaled to Anika it was Yuvraj. With a silent chuckle, he answered the call.
"Dev, you monster! What is this pile of files on my desk?" Yuvraj's voice boomed through the phone, a hint of exasperation evident.
Devraj chuckled. "Welcome to the real world, Your Highness. The empire doesn't run itself, you know."
"Very funny," Yuvraj retorted, his voice laced with mock annoyance. "I was expecting a royal welcome, not a mountain of paperwork."
"Rome wasn't built in a day, Yuvi," Devraj replied calmly. "You've got to learn to walk before you can run."
"I get it, I get it," Yuvraj grumbled. "But couldn't you have spread it out a bit?"
Devraj chuckled. "I'll be there in an hour. We can go through it together."
"Fine," Yuvraj sighed dramatically. "But don't expect me to be smiling."
"I'll take that as a challenge," Devraj replied with a grin. "See you soon."
He hung up the phone and turned to Anika, who was watching him with amusement. "Looks like I have to make a quick visit to the palace," he explained. "There's a mountain of paperwork waiting for Yuvraj."
Anika nodded understandingly. "I'll be here when you get back," she said. "Don't worry about me."
Devraj kissed her hand. "I'll be back as soon as I can," he promised. "Maybe we can go for a ride later, just the two of us."
Anika's eyes lit up. "I'd like that," she replied.
