She nodded reluctantly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm really fine, Dev."
Devraj wasn't convinced. He stood up and walked to the balcony, pulling out his phone to call Anjana Devi. "Anjana, I need you to contact the best female gynecologist and have her come to my chamber as soon as possible," he instructed firmly. He could hear the urgency in his own voice, and Anjana immediately took the order without hesitation.
After hanging up, he returned to the room and asked the servants for some fresh orange juice. He knew that Anika needed nourishment, and he wanted to make sure she was taken care of. Once the juice arrived, he handed it to her, watching as she took small sips, her eyes still reflecting her unease.
After she finished, he carefully laid her back on the bed, ensuring she was comfortable in his arms as he settled beside her, the weight of the moment pressing down on him. He wanted to tell her everything, to share the news that had turned his world upside down, but he knew he had to take it slow.
"Anika," he began softly, searching for the right words. "I know you're worried, and I want you to know that I'm here for you. Whatever it is, we'll face it together."
She turned to him, her eyes searching his face for answers. "Dev, what's going on? You seem different. Is there something you're not telling me?"
Devraj hesitated, the truth hanging heavily in the air. He wanted to protect her from the pain of his decision, but he also knew that honesty was the foundation of their relationship. "I promise I'll tell you everything soon. Just... give me a moment, okay?"
Anika nodded, her expression softening again, but the worry still lingered. Devraj took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders. He knew that the conversation ahead would change everything, but for now, he wanted to be there for her, to support her through whatever she was feeling.
As they lay together in silence, Devraj held her close with his one hand on her stomach protectively as telling the baby that he is sorry for everything, hoping that the warmth of his presence would bring her some comfort. He knew that soon, he would have to share the truth, but for now, he just wanted to be her anchor in the storm.
The next morning dawned bright and clear, but the air in the room felt heavy with anticipation. Anika sat on the edge of the bed, Devraj heart racing as he waited for Dr. Mehta to arrive. Devraj paced the room, his mind racing with thoughts of the previous day's revelations and the uncertainty that lay ahead.
When Dr. Mehta finally entered, her demeanor was calm and professional. "Good morning, your highness. How are you feeling today?" she asked, her voice soothing.
"I'm okay, just a bit anxious," Anika admitted, her fingers fidgeting with the edge of the blanket.
Dr. Mehta nodded, understanding the weight of the moment. "That's completely normal. I'm here to check on you and take some samples for testing. It's important we get a clear picture of your health."
As the doctor conducted her examination asking questions, Devraj stood by Anika's side, holding her hand tightly. He could feel the tension in her body, and he wished he could take away her worries. After a few moments, Dr. Mehta finished and looked at them both with a reassuring smile.
"I'll send these samples for testing, and the results should be ready in few hours. Please be patient, Your Majesty," she said, addressing Devraj with respect. "I'll be back as soon as I have the results."
With that, Dr. Mehta left the room, and the silence that followed felt almost deafening. Devraj settled beside Anika, brushing a gentle kiss on her forehead. "There's nothing to worry about, my love. I'll be back in an hour," he said softly, trying to instill a sense of calm.
