The next day dawned with a soft glow filtering through the curtains, and Anika woke up early, her heart fluttering with anticipation. Today was the day she would prepare her first rosai, a moment she had been looking forward to. She quickly got out of bed, her mind racing with ideas for breakfast and the sweet dish she wanted to make.
Meanwhile, Devraj was already up, getting ready for the day. He moved with his usual confidence, his presence commanding attention even in the quiet of the morning. As he descended the stairs, he exuded a charm that made Anika's heart skip a beat.
In the kitchen, Anika was busy at work. She mixed ingredients for a sweet dish, humming softly to herself. She also prepared a protein shake for Yuvraj, who would be returning from the gym soon, and a boost milk for Anya, which she planned to give to her mother, Sravya. The aroma of her cooking filled the air, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
At the dining table, Rani Devi and her sister-in-law Radha were already seated, enjoying their morning coffee. Anika joined them, balancing the glasses of milk and the protein shake in her hands.
"Good morning, Maa! Good morning, Radha Maa!" she greeted them, placing the drinks on the table.
"Good morning, Anika! It smells wonderful in here," Rani Devi said, her eyes twinkling with approval.
"Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy what I've made," Anika replied, her heart swelling with pride.
Just then, Yuvraj walked in, looking invigorated after his workout. "What's cooking, Anika? I can smell something delicious!" he exclaimed, grabbing the protein shake and downing it in one go.
"Just a little something sweet and breakfast for everyone," she said, her cheeks flushing with happiness.
As they all gathered around the dining table, laughter and warmth filled the room. Anika felt a sense of belonging, surrounded by the people she cared about.
At that moment, Devraj descended the stairs, his presence commanding attention. He was dressed impeccably, ready to head to the temple. However, as he reached the bottom, Rani Devi called out to him, stopping him in his tracks.
"Dev, wait a moment!" she said, her tone serious yet gentle.
He turned, curious. "Yes, Maa?"
"Anika is going to her maternal house for a day and will be back tomorrow evening. Yuvraj is going to drop her off. Is that alright with you? It's not good for a king to rome around the villages neglecting the duties besides you are recovering from the earlier events. I don't want to stress you." she explained, her gaze shifting between them.
Devraj's heart sank at the news. He felt a wave of disappointment wash over him, and he quickly glanced toward Anika, silently asking her with his eyes if she really wanted to go.
Anika felt a pang of guilt as she met his gaze. She didn't want to leave him, especially after the bond they had formed, but she also longed to visit her parents. It was a difficult decision, and she could see the concern in Devraj's eyes, which made her heart ache even more.
"I... I don't know," she finally admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I want to see my family, but I also don't want to leave you."
Devraj's expression softened, and he stepped closer to her, his voice low and sincere. "You don't have to choose, Anika. Visit your family and come back soon."
Anika smiled, feeling a mix of relief and sadness. "I promise I'll be back tomorrow evening."
Rani Devi watched the exchange with a knowing smile, sensing the bond between them. "It's important for you to spend time with your family, Anika. We'll be here waiting for you."
With a deep breath, Anika nodded, feeling reassured. "Okay, I'll go. But I'll make sure to call you every hour," she said, her tone playful yet sincere.
Devraj chuckled softly, his heart warming at her words. "I'll hold you to that."
As they all enjoyed their meal, Devraj couldn't help but steal glances at Anika, cherishing the moments they had together, even if it was just for a little while longer. He knew that their connection was strong enough to withstand the distance, but the thought of her being away for even a day made him feel uneasy.
After breakfast, Yuvraj prepared to leave with Anika. As they stepped outside, Devraj stood at the door, watching them with a mix of emotions swirling inside him. He wanted her to be happy, but he couldn't shake off the feeling of longing that tugged at his heart.
"Take care of her, Yuvi," he called out, his voice firm yet laced with concern.
"Don't worry, Dev. I'll make sure she's back safe and sound," Yuvraj replied, giving him a reassuring nod.
As Anika turned to wave goodbye, Devraj felt a sense of emptiness wash over him. He knew she would be back, but the house felt a little less bright without her presence. With a heavy heart, he returned to temple with guards, hoping that the day would pass quickly until he could see her again.
The day dragged on for Devraj. He tried to keep himself busy, but every little thing reminded him of Anika. The kitchen felt quieter without her laughter, and the living room seemed emptier without her vibrant energy. He found himself glancing at his phone, hoping for a message or a call from her.
Meanwhile, Anika was at her maternal home, surrounded by the warmth of her family. They welcomed her with open arms, and she felt a rush of love and nostalgia. Yet, even amidst the joy, her thoughts kept drifting back to Devraj. She missed his presence, his teasing smile, and the way he made her feel special.
As the evening approached, Anika decided to call Devraj. She dialed his number, her heart racing with anticipation. When he answered, his voice was warm and familiar, instantly putting her at ease.
"Hey, Anika! How's everything?" he asked, his tone brightening at the sound of her voice.
"It's good. I'm having a great time with my family, but I miss you," she admitted, her voice soft.
"I miss you too," he replied, his sincerity evident. "The house feels empty without you."
Anika smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her. "I'll be back tomorrow evening, I promise."
"Good. I'll be counting down the hours," he said, a hint of playfulness in his tone.
They chatted for a while, sharing stories and laughter, and Anika felt a sense of comfort wash over her. She knew that no matter the distance, their bond was strong, and she couldn't wait to be back in his presence.
As the call ended, Anika felt a renewed sense of excitement. She was grateful for her family, but her heart belonged to Devraj, and she couldn't wait to return to him.
