Roughly a century and a half ago

A Vasto Lorde was walking through the sandy desert of Hueco Mundo. The Vasto Lorde in question had (H/C) hair, a skeletal mask that spread from her head to her neck. Around the mouth of the mask was in the shape of a beak. She had skeleton-like wings and talon-like hands. In her arms was another Vasto Lorde, who was dying. The Vasto Lorde in question had similar features but more masculine.

???: Just... leave me here (M/N)... *cough*

(M/N): I won't!

???: Baraggan will catch up *cough* *cough* ...at this rate... You'll die too...

(M/N): Then I'll fight with my last breath!

???: Don't be a fool! Don't be like me... I did this to myself... I'm no arrancar... yet I went and challenged Baraggan anyway...

(M/N): Because you did what you think would be best for all of us!

???: But I went about it the wrong way! I was impatient *cough* a-and... I dragged you and others into this fight without thinking of the consequences...

(M/N): Of course I would've helped you! You're my brother...

???: A foolish one... Listen (M/N), I know I won't be able to change your mind... but if you plan to challenge Baraggan, don't do it alone...

(M/N): I-I'll have you helping me, Rook!

The dying arrancar, now known as Rook, coughed even more, this time, bleeding from the mouth.

Rook: You know that's not true... I don't have much time left... I've exhausted what's left of my spiritual energy. I can't even heal my injuries.

(M/N) didn't want to believe Rook, but he was right. He was missing a leg, massive gashes and wounds and even had an missing eye. He was panting heavily and coughing up blood. It was a miracle he wasn't already dead.

Rook: (M/N)... promises me you won't charge head first into Baraggan's castle... Be smart...

(M/N): I-I...

Rook: And before I die... please... take my soul... Become stronger.

(M/N): I can't do that!

Rook: What's stopping you? You never had a problem taking others' souls, why not mine?

(M/N): You expect me to willingly kill you?

Rook: I'm already waiting for death. At least if you take my soul, you'll be stronger than before.

(M/N)'s mind was racing. In the last few hours, she and a multitude of other hollows went to storm Baraggan's castle to overthrow him but they swiftly realized how unmatch they were. Baraggan's fraccion pretty much took them all down but Baraggan made it a point to make Rook, the leader of the invasion, an example. Even as a Vasto Lorde, Rook stood no chance against the King. And here was (M/N), soon to be sole survivor of the invasion, with her dying brother in her hands.

Rook: I went into that battle knowing that I would most likely lose my life, and I'm sure the others did too. Baraggan is a tyrannical ruler. They would rather die than to stay under his rule forever. So don't think for a second you weren't adequate enough.

(M/N) at this point was in tears. She lost pretty much everything in a day. (M/N) felt a part of her die that day and she devoured her own brother for power so that she could take revenge on Baraggan.
