FINCH.
———

I watched my little brother scarf down the bird I'd caught him. He was obviously hungry, but I guess that's my fault. Hunting isn't my specialty, since I was never taught how to hunt. My speed is the only thing that gives me the advantage.

"That was really good!" He exclaimed while licking his jaws. I smiled thoughtfully at him.

"Glad you enjoyed it, are you full?" I stared at the singular wing he left. The wings would be too small for a full meal. I swallowed dryly.

"Yeah, thanks Finch!" He bounced up and down, "can you teach me how to hunt?"

"I hardly know how to hunt myself, Robin." I looked down.

"But you always bring such nice catches here!" He whined. Yeah, because I wait for one of those clan cats to attempt to catch it. Then, when it gets far enough from them I snatch it from their grasp. They just chase it right into my jaws. I hardly know the basics for hunting, I can't smell very well.

I pressed my paw onto Robin's nose. He wasn't hurt in the slightest. He had no injuries to indicate what we've been through.

"I'll teach you soon," I assured while sliding my paw down to his shoulder. He had the birth mark our father had, a black patch of fur in the shape of the sun.

"Really! I can't wait!" He jumped around but ended up slipping on a patch of hay. I quickly slid under him to break his fall.

"Maybe we should get walking down before hunting." I laughed lightly.

"I can walk just fine, see!" He jumped up and took a few wobbling steps.

He's been running all his life with me, I just want him to have a better life.

"Can I hear a story about our parents again?" He asked. How long am I going to keep making up stories about them?

They ran away, and I chased them. I chased them like the idiot I was.

"Did I tell you about the day we went fishing?" I tucked my paws under my chest. The barn was empty, other than some of the barn cats. An occasional fox came around to steal a rooster, but the guard dog usually gets them. Me and Robin aren't supposed to be here, so we hide away.

"No!" He scooted closer to me and leaned his head on my shoulder. I ran my tongue over my teeth.

"Right, so me and mom were sitting by the river.." I looked down at the floor boards.
