FINCH
———

I had another duel, but I couldn't get my mind off Pond'Ears. For some reason I was just drawn to him. That night I found him at the gorge, I didn't even know how I got there. I didn't have control over my body, I just walked. I just went to him.

I looked at Robin and Pond'Ears as they trained. Robin was making a lot of progress compared to me. I feel like I'm going backwards.

"Alright, you got me!" Robin laughed as Pond'Ears pinned him for the fourth time. Pond stepped off Robin and stretched.

I do wonder who I'm up against today. Who else hates my guts to the point they want to fight me to the death—or until I give up. But that's death.

"Look! Finch! I did it!" Robin exclaimed as he pinned Pond'Ears under him. I snapped my eyes to their position, a smile on my face.

"Woah! He got you Pond'Ears! Not so much a tough guy, huh?" I yelled as I stood up and padded over to them.

"No he just started before I said we can start," his voice came muffled under Robin's weight.

"Just say you lost!" Robin boasted while swishing his tail behind him.

"Fine! I lost! Get off me!" Pond'Ears laughed. His laugh was heart-warming, like he doesn't do it much. It was light, and almost sounded like a wheeze.

"Yeah!" Robin hopped off him and bounced in circles. "Woohoo! I got Pond'Ears!" I nudged him in his shoulder with my nose.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, you got me," he murmured while shaking his pelt off. "We should be getting you back to camp."

"One day I'm going to be able to take you down when you're on guard!" Robin exclaimed while yawning, "I'm famished."

"Me and your big brother can you hunt you something, you'd like that?" Pond tilted his head to the side.

"Yeah! I'll see you two back at camp!" He stretched before running in the right direction this time. I glanced at Pond'Ears.

"So, you have an idea of who you're fighting today? Are you ready?" He asked. I looked down and shrugged.

"Not really," I murmured while kicking a pebble away from my paws. Pond'Ears cleared his throat and nodded slowly.

"Well, only five more, aren't you excited? Maybe Splotched'Star will let you become a warrior earlier if you impress him."
