FINCH
———

It was only me in the prison den. I was alone. And, wherever Robin was, I'm sure he was with the clan cats. What else can I do but run? I have to escape, because this may be the only time I won't have Robin holding me back.

No, not holding me back.

I glared at the cat who was positioned at the entrance of the den; Barley'Call. She was a brown cat.

How do I get out of here? They said the gathering ends when the sun comes up. I sighed and sat against the cool cave wall. What do I do with myself? What if Robin tries to find me? I gulped.

What if I'm dooming him to the same fate I have?

I stared at my shaking paws.

"Hey, don't have a panic attack in there." Barley'Call said. "Are you okay?" She asked. I nodded my head frantically and exhaled.

"You don't have to sit so far away from me, not every cat here is like Yarrow'Snare," she assured me. What if it's a trap? Still, I found myself stepping up to sit beside her at the entrance of the den.

"So, you thinking of staying?" She smiled.

"I don't want to, but my brother does. I don't want to disappoint my brother." I sighed, "but I don't belong here."

"Ha, yeah, attacking an apprentice is pretty big." Barley'Call shrugged, "and everyone believes you wouldn't survive a first day of training."

"Does Pond'Ears believe that?" My voice was barely above a whisper.

"Ah, he's actually just about the only cat who's on your side. Don't get me wrong, you have strong claws..and teeth, but you're so scrawny." She shook her head, "you're tall, that's intimidating, but you still lack basic fighting skills. How'd you survive out there?"

"I didn't really survive I just made sure my brother was fed." I groaned, "I guess Pond'Ears was right, I really don't care about myself."

"Well, you're a good big brother, I'll give you that. Now your brother can have a good life, yeah?" She chuckled softly, "what are you going to do with yourself, is the question."

"I'm going to run." I looked at the moon, "I'm going to run to where Robin wouldn't find me."

"Robin wouldn't find you? You're going to leave your brother?" She cleared her throat, "won't he miss you?"

"He wouldn't miss me if he knew that I was the reason our parents are gone." I sniffled, "he wouldn't miss me if he knew what I'd done."
