POND'EARS
———

My entire body felt numb. I didn't even want to open my eyes. If I wake up in the sky, I'll accept it, but I won't believe it. I can't be dead, can I? Finch dug his claws so deep into my throat I couldn't breathe. I felt my mind go blank right at that moment. For a second, I could see the end. So, if I open my eyes, will I be dead?

I opened one eye, and, gladly, saw I was inside the medicine den.

"Berry'Nose, neither of them are waking up. It's been an entire two days, what are we going to do?" Twig'Snapper's worried voice echoed.

"They're both still breathing, Twig, it's okay. They got into a pretty bad scuffle, the body needs time to heal." Berry'Nose assured. I opened my other eye and blinked a few times to adjust. Beside me, I saw Finch's fur. His torso rose and fell slowly.

"Are you sure Finch is? You know how malnourished he is, what if this was fatal? You know how Pond fights." Twig'Snapper seemed to be pacing back and forth, I could hear the clack of his claws on the ground.

"They're both breathing, Twig," Berry'Nose repeated.

"If I move, will I displace an organ?" I called out. Twig'Snapper ran to me and crouched down to my side.

"You're awake! You're awake! Do you feel anything?" He poked my cheek with his claw.

"No, that's the problem." I groaned at the ache in my neck mostly, "I've been out for two days?" All feeling came back to my body at the same time.

"You needed time to recover, so he's fine now, right Berry'Nose?" Twig looked over at Berry who was nodding slowly.

"Maybe not good enough to hunt, but walking should be alright."

"You can walk, right?!" He shook me back and forth by my shoulders.

"Careful!" Berry'Nose yelled.

"Gosh, Twig, I'm fine." I lifted my head up and yawned. "See?"

"Yeah, yeah! Get up! Get up!" He nudged my arm before walking around to my back to push me up. I groaned as I rolled onto my stomach and set my paws in front of me.

"Twig, be careful, you know bandages can slide off at any time when strained too much. His injuries can get infected," Berry'Nose warned.

"Yeah, Mr.medicine cat, be careful," I sneered before glancing at Finch. "Is he okay?"

"Yep, it actually looked like you lost the fight." Berry'Nose chuckled.
