I HAD DECIDED TO STOP MOPING OVER ARCHIE AND THROW MYSELF INTO singing and writing songs. Kevin and Veronica agreed to be my dates for the evening at the drive-in. Cheryl led the way in her car as we settled in to watch "Rebel Without a Cause."

"Make some room, outcasts," Cheryl quipped as she joined us. Veronica scooted over so she could sit with us while I lay at their feet, munching on gummy worms.

"Nice hair," Kevin remarked teasingly at the screen

"That jacket," Veronica added with a smirk.

"Jason always loved the drive-in," Cheryl reminisced, but our eyes met with rolled eyes from Kevin and Veronica.

We parked toward the back, near where the Serpents were causing a ruckus—laughing, throwing things, and generally being disruptive.

"Southside trash," Kevin muttered disapprovingly.

"They've been at it since the opening credits," Veronica informed Cheryl.

"Shh!"Kevin turned around to shush them.

"Screw off!" one of the Serpents shot back.

"Nice haircut, you dweeb," they taunted Kevin.

"That's enough," I said firmly, rising up in the truck bed.

"Hey! You know what happens to a snake when a Prada boot steps on it?" I challenged, and they fell silent. "Shut the hell up, or you'll find out!"

Applause and honking from nearby patrons showed support for my stance. I gave a slight bow and settled back down.

"I can't believe you just threatened a gang member," Kevin said nervously.

"I've faced worse in the locker room. I just can't stand people disrespecting my cinematic experience," I sighed, feeling a rush of adrenaline.

"How about a refill?" Veronica suggested to Cheryl.

"Yeah, Kev, how about a refill? Cherry cola, as always," Cheryl agreed. Kevin sighed and went to get more popcorn.

Kevin had been absent for quite some time.

"I'm going to go look for Kevin," I announced, but my two friends just nodded, fixated on the screen.

I made my way to the concessions line and was surprised to find Jughead behind the counter.

"Hey Juggy... have you seen Kevin?" I inquired, and Jughead shook his head.

"Weird, he came by for a refill about fifteen minutes ago," I remarked.

"Ben was on duty then," Jughead replied. "What can I get you?" and I gave him a look.
