Jughead Jones

ARCHIE ARRIVED HOME JUST AS MR. ANDREWS FINISHED A PHONE CALL

with Weatherbee. I paused on the stairs to listen in, curious about the conversation unfolding.

"That was Weatherbee. He's concerned about Jug's safety," Mr. Andrews explained with a sigh, glancing at Archie and then at me.

"After what happened with Cheryl, he's worried about how the other students might react. He thinks Jughead should finish the semester from home," Mr. Andrews continued, his brow furrowing with concern.

"Jughead's getting kicked out because Cheryl attacked him? How is that fair?" Archie interjected, his frustration evident in his voice.

"It's not," Fred acknowledged, rubbing his temples wearily.

"Well, can't we call someone? The school board? Maybe Mom can help," Archie suggested, a hint of hope in his voice.

"Son, FP may spend decades in prison, potentially the rest of his life. We need to think of a long-term solution," Fred reasoned, trying to keep a level head amidst the turmoil.

"We are the long-term solution," Archie insisted earnestly, looking to his father for support.

"That's not how it works, okay? I'm not his legal guardian," Fred replied firmly, his expression serious and resolute.

"Well, Mom's a lawyer. Maybe she can do something," Archie shot back, his frustration building.

"Archie, my priority is keeping you safe," Fred emphasized, his tone tinged with concern for his son.

"Keep me safe from who? Jughead? Are you kidding me, Dad?" Archie's frustration boiled over, his voice tinged with hurt.

"No, from whatever trouble seems to follow the Joneses around, wherever they go, whatever they do. Maybe you should go live with your mom in Chicago," Fred suggested, his words weighted with concern.

"That's not even something I was considering, Dad. But you know what? Maybe I should," Archie retorted sharply, his hurt and anger palpable.

"Hey, if it'll keep you out of trouble, I'm all for it," Fred replied, his tone resigned and tired.

I decided it was time to make my exit, walking towards the door as Archie called after me.

"Hey, Jug."

"I'm gonna sleep in the garage tonight, okay?" I stated plainly, feeling the weight of everything that had transpired as I opened and closed the door behind me.
