Jughead Jones
DAD DROPPED CLARY AND ME OFF AT THE DANCE
"You be a gentleman tonight, okay?" He pointed at me and Clary chuckled. "He always is, Mr. Jones."
"Clary, would you mind giving us just a minute?" I asked, and Clary shook her head.
"No, of course. Take your time." Clary grabbed the umbrella and walked to the steps.
"What's up?" Dad asked as I got in the truck.
"Look, I've been thinking. I mean, if it's alright with you... I could come back. And I could... I could come back home," I said, nodding.
"I'll do you one better. It's time the whole family gets back together. Us, your mom, Jellybean," Dad said. "They've got a sweet set-up in Toledo, there's decent work there..."
"In Toledo? Well, why not Riverdale?" I asked.
"'Cause of dinners like we just had. And what you're writing about in your book. And hell, you know what happens to people like us in Riverdale, Jug. We get chewed up," Dad said, and I sighed, looking out the window at Clary.
Clary looked stunning in a beautiful black floral patchwork dress that flowed down to her ankles, paired with black heels that brought her closer to my height. Her hair was elegantly pinned back in her favorite half-up, half-down style for events.
Arm in arm, we entered the dance, and I sighed. "Clary, tonight after the dance, I'd like to talk to you about something. It's about my dad."
Clary stopped and looked at me with concern. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, actually, things are great. Better than they've been in a while." I gently pushed a loose strand of hair out of her face. "I just want us to figure something out together," I explained, and she nodded understandingly.
Clary glanced towards Cheryl. "Oh, God... Will you be okay alone here for a second?"
"I think I'll be fine," I chuckled, and she kissed me quickly.
"I'll be right back."
"Friends, students, and alumni, I hope you brought your dancing shoes. Please join me in welcoming to the stage Riverdale High's very own Archie Andrews and Clarissa Cooper!" My head snapped so fast when I heard their names.
"I thought Archie was singing with you," I looked to Veronica.
"They had a change of plans," Veronica sighed.
"Hey everybody," Clary said into her mic, and the crowd cheered upon realizing it was her. She chuckled lightly. "So, originally, it was supposed to be Archie and Veronica on stage tonight—and that will still happen—but Archie and I wrote a song together and would like to perform for you guys. Everyone okay with that?"
