"What did I just witness?" Ethan shouted staring out of the back of the van.
"I don't know! I don't know!" Macie was starting to have a panic attack.
"We have to go back! why are we not going back!" Ari shouted looking at Chase.
"No! He said we have to go to the mall! Seth and Fig will be fine!" Chase said looking back and forth constantly.
"A bright light just beamed the sky behind us and our vote is to not go back?" Mark asked.
Seth woke us all up and just told us to pack and go. As soon as he did we heard Fig scream something at someone and Seth ran off. We packed in all of about a minute and got in the van and left Seth and Fig behind. I was terrified as to what would have happened but I trusted Seth and more importantly, I trusted that Fig would protect him. Chase keeping us going was the only thing that kept us sane. We all had been fighting the words that popped into our heads to turn the van around but Seth promised us he'd be okay.
"We should really go back. We've already been driving and the light went off like five minutes ago. Please, Chase, I beg you." Macie pleaded as tears trickled down her cheeks.
"We shouldn't. It's not a good idea, I'm sorry Macie." I added back as she sighed and continued to look out of the back window.
Chase had a tear trickle down his face as whispers filled the air in the back of the van. Without Fig or Seth, we had no plan whatsoever. We just needed to get to the mall, somewhere public with a lot of people and a lot of spaces to hide so nothing would catch up to us, and if it did we could find somewhere to hide from it. While this sucked it was the best option. Whatever showed up at the campsite was either dead, captured Fig and Seth, or killed them. I felt my eyes water. Seth was like a little brother to me at this point. We grew up together and Ethan was basically attached to him at the hip.
Driving at night it was difficult for us to not get tired, I could tell Chase was struggling to keep his eyes open so I offered to drive and he agreed but only if I woke him up every ten minutes to make sure I was going the right way. I let him sleep for twenty minutes every time but he stayed awake for about a minute, realized I was driving correctly, and went right back to sleep. We did that cycle about three times until the gas was finally getting close to empty so we veered off a random exit and I pulled into the closest gas station.
"huh, whats? why did we stop?" Chase said rubbing his eyes.
"Gas is empty, I'm going to fill up super quick," I said kissing his cheek as he slowly closed his eyes again.
According to what Chase told me about where the mall was, we were not far but I didn't fully know, the sun was starting to come up at this point. I hopped out and eventually so did Emily. She looked groggy but she had her hood up and short, I mean short shorts on and stood next to me. We didn't say much but we kept awkwardly looking at each other, but when we saw the other was looking we looked away.
"Hey, how are you doing?" Emily began a small conversation.
"The best I can be. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about someone I see as a family member. Which sucks but we gotta keep going." I tried to hold back tears.
"I get it. Mark's family brought me in and for a long time, we were just like a family. I wanted to stay that way, knowing how bad it could go. When I first brought my feelings up I ran away because I never had something as good as that family. I didn't want to see them push me away. You'll never guess who found me." She smiled as she looked down nearly blushing.
"That's sweet," I added
"That isn't why I told you though sweetheart. I told you that cuz I care about you and him. You guys all of this bond I've never seen except for-"
