Chapter 5

"Couldn't keep your bitch mouth closed, could you Sam?" Ander started into her first.

"I told you this was a mistake before we came, Voss. She is clearly too emotional to be reasoned with," Sam said, heading towards the door.

"What's going on here?" Eloise had her hand on her hip and a very understandably pissed off expression on her face. "I thought you were here to help my sister not take your turn at taking cheap shots at her."

"Eloise, we apologize..." Voss was pleading in his address. "That is not why we came. We did come to offer our assistance to your sister. Sam is just a world-class bitch that needs to learn some manners. I'm sorry, is Emmylou going to be alright?"

"I think ya'll need to do some explaining and fast. The past few days have been confusing and frankly are starting to even scare me. I don't know what the flying fudge is goin' on but ya'll showing up is not helping, it's making me more suspicious." It was clear Eloise was trying to hold onto her anger, but was quickly softening due to the apologetic expressions on Voss and his brothers and his faces.

Voss could hear muffled sounds of voices, and that's when he saw out the large dining room windows and out into the backyard. Trey was kicking a ball around the soggy wet grass with three kids.

"I would like to explain," he said, "and I would sincerely like to know what you mean when you say that things are scaring you. Or would it be best for Emmylou and you if we left and returned at a more convenient time? I'm sure you want to go check on her." He was very worried that his voice might carry upstairs and bother her further.

Eloise shook her head a little and blew out a slow breath with puffed cheeks, her anger deflating right before their eyes. "I'll check on her in a few minutes. She needed to cry a little and let it out. If I go up there right now, she'll stop crying and give me a pep talk about how everything is gonna to be all right and not to worry about her... She doesn't grieve with me, she won't cry with me," Eloise said to her hands.

Everyone just stood in silence for a few minutes, contemplating the grieving widow alone upstairs.

"Voss, we should go," Sam said in a low voice. "We'll call later and try again to talk to her."

"Why is your lawyer here anyhow?" Eloise asked looking directly into his eyes.

"That's a misunderstanding on Sam's part. She's my friend..." Voss turned to look at Sam. "She works with me, and had offered to help with the media problems your sister has been experiencing."

"I tell'ya, hooking us up with one of those publicist people would be a heck of a lot more helpful than another casserole for the freezer."

"At first, we were hoping that the news coverage would go away," Ander said. "We didn't want to make it worse by showing up on your sister's doorstep with a flock of reporters asking questions."

"But because of the lies they keep writing about Emmylou, we couldn't stay away," Ivor said.

"Well, I appreciate ya'll saying that. How come there ain't a mess of them outside there tonight with you lot in town?" Eloise asked.

"Because I ordered them to take the night off," Sam said while inspecting the living room.

"Sam is a complete asshole when speaking to real genuine people like you and your sister, but she is the best in her field." Voss grinned begrudgingly.

"Sam is only practiced in dealing with dick heads and actors all day. Just ignore her, we do," Ivor said.

Eloise let out another long sigh. "Well do you or don't you want to stay and have a coffee and piece of cake? I will at least hear ya'll out and fill you in on a few of the A-holes that have been stalking my sister."
