24: Power Shift

The morning light filtered through the large windows of the castle, casting a warm glow across the faces of the newly-formed group. It was hard to believe that just the night before, they had been fighting off shadows and werewolves. Now, the atmosphere was calm, almost serene, as the group gathered in the grand dining hall for breakfast. But beneath the surface, an undercurrent of unease ran through them all.

Jin, who had been tasked with preparing breakfast, was busy in the kitchen, humming to himself as he whisked eggs. Hoseok was setting the table with a carefree grin, and Jungkook was doing his best to teach the newly transformed puppy some tricks, though it mostly involved the puppy excitedly running circles around him.

Taehyung, Namjoon, Yoongi, and Jimin, however, sat quietly at the table, their minds elsewhere. The events of the previous night weighed heavily on them, especially the discovery of their newfound powers.

Taehyung stared down at his hands, still half-expecting the warm glow of light to return. But nothing happened. "How did I do that?" he murmured, more to himself than anyone else.

Namjoon, who was seated beside him, gave him a thoughtful look. "I've been wondering the same thing. Last night, I managed to talk to the animals in the forest when I went out for a quick walk. It's like... they understood me. They even followed my commands. But I've never been able to do that before."

Yoongi nodded, his face uncharacteristically serious. "And I somehow ended up with laser beams in my arms. I almost destroyed half the kitchen trying to figure it out."

Jimin, who had been quiet up until now, sighed. "I used to be just a regular guy-a thief, sure, but nothing special. Now, I feel this... energy inside me, like I can manipulate things. When I concentrate, I can move objects without touching them."

The table fell silent as they all took in the gravity of the situation.

"This doesn't make any sense," Namjoon finally said, shaking his head. "We're just normal people-or, well, we used to be. But now we have these powers, and the others... don't."

Jungkook, having overheard the conversation, walked over with the puppy still nipping at his heels. "You mean to say you guys have powers now?" His voice was tinged with a mix of curiosity and concern. "And we don't?"

Jin, who had just entered with a tray of food, frowned. "That's strange. I mean, I've always had my genie powers, but I haven't been able to use them since we got here. I just assumed it was because we're not in Agrabah anymore."

Hoseok, catching onto the conversation, chimed in as he set down the plates. "Yeah, I haven't been able to do any of my usual Maui stuff either. I tried to change into an animal earlier this morning, and... nothing."

Jungkook scratched his head, visibly puzzled. "And I haven't been able to stick to walls or anything like that since we got here."

"So, let me get this straight," Namjoon said, piecing it all together. "Those of us who were just regular characters-Taehyung, Jimin, Yoongi, and me-now have powers. But those of you who already had powers don't?"

"It seems that way," Jin confirmed, a slight frown creasing his brow. "But why? Why would that happen?"

Yoongi leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing as he thought. "This place isn't normal. We've already seen that much. Shadows that attack us, a werewolf that turns into a puppy... Maybe it's this world that's messing with our abilities."

"But if that's the case," Jimin interjected, "why would it take away your powers and give us new ones?"

Taehyung, who had been quiet for most of the conversation, finally spoke up. "Maybe... maybe it's trying to balance things out. If we all had our original powers, we might be too strong for whatever forces are at work here. But if it shifts those powers to different people, it changes the dynamics."
