As I touched my neck, I felt a subtle warmth where her hand had been. The pain and discomfort I had anticipated from the sparring session were mysteriously absent.
I looked at Amara, who had paused and then walked back to me with a composed expression.
She hovered her hand gently over the side of my neck, and I felt a faint tingle as she cast a spell.
It was strange; I could sense a shift beneath my skin, as though her magic was weaving through my body.
When she removed her hand, I instinctively touched the spot she had treated.
"I didn't even know I was hurt," I said, genuinely surprised.
Amara nodded, her gaze steady. "I know you didn't. As soon as I stepped onto the mat to start the sparring, I cast a spell to dull the pain.
I did that to ensure you wouldn't feel discomfort, especially when I slammed you against the wall.
I'm aware that when I slam people against walls, their bones often crack. So, I made sure nothing harmful happened during the sparring match."
Her casual shrug contrasted with the seriousness of her words. It was a clear indication of her control over her abilities and her considerate approach to ensuring the training was as safe as possible, even if it meant using her magic to mitigate potential injuries.
I regarded her with a mix of admiration and curiosity. "So, you planned ahead, knowing the potential impact of our sparring. That's quite resourceful."
Amara's eyes softened slightly. "It's part of being thorough. I didn't want to cause you unnecessary pain. If we're going to be working closely together, I'd rather not have any lingering issues from our training sessions."
Her approach was both practical and empathetic, reflecting her complex nature.
Her abilities were formidable, but her consideration for my well-being added another layer to her character.
"Impressive," I said, nodding in approval. "Your foresight and control are exactly what we need. It's good to know that you're not just powerful but also thoughtful in your approach."
She smiled faintly, a touch of satisfaction in her expression. "Thank you. It's important to me that we can work together effectively. The last thing I want is to be a liability."
"Agreed," I replied. "And considering the challenges we face, having someone who can both handle themselves and care for their allies is invaluable."
As we walked off the mat, I could tell that Amara was more than just a powerful addition to the mafia;
she was someone who could balance strength with sensitivity. It was a rare combination, and it made her even more intriguing.
We continued our conversation as we left the gym, discussing the next steps and how best to integrate her skills into our operations.
The evening had proven that she was not only capable but also deeply committed to her role-traits that would serve us well in the days ahead.
