Amara's PoV
I was strolling through the garden, savouring the warmth of the sun on my skin. The tranquillity was abruptly shattered when a sharp pain pierced my neck.
My vision blurred, and a wave of weakness overwhelmed me. I stumbled to my knees, my consciousness wavering. As I looked up, I saw men dressed in black scaling the garden gate.
They quickly and carefully lifted me over, and everything faded to darkness.
Two hours later, I groaned as I regained consciousness. My attempts to move were hindered by the heavy restraints around my neck, ankles, and wrists.
I was chained to a metal bed, the mattress thin, and the pillow meagre. Panic began to rise within me as I surveyed my surroundings.
The door creaked open, and a man walked in, carrying a tray of water and food.
He removed his mask, revealing a face twisted into a sinister grin. His eyes gleamed with a mixture of satisfaction and malevolence.
"Finally awake, I see. And rather fast," he said, kneeling beside me.
I tried to summon my magic, but nothing happened. Confusion turned to frustration as I examined my hands, realizing something was off. The man's smirk widened as he noticed my struggle.
"Oh, I took precautions. Found out about your little abilities-witch, vampire, and wolf.
I didn't want to hurt your unborn children, so I was extra careful.
I've got gadgets that strip your abilities away as long as you wear these," he said, tapping the device around my neck with a finger.
He continued, his voice dripping with mock sympathy. "So, you're experiencing what a helpless human would feel in this situation.
If I hadn't taken these measures, I'd probably be dead by now.
And I have plans for you. As long as you cooperate, I promise not to harm you or your babies."
The cold, calculated tone of his voice sent a chill down my spine. I growled in defiance, my instincts screaming at me to fight back, but my current state rendered me powerless.
"What do you want?" I managed to demand through gritted teeth.
The man's smile didn't waver. "Ah, straight to the point. I need you to help me with a little project of mine.
Your unique abilities and your connection to Donte make you invaluable to me."
I felt a surge of anger and desperation. I needed to find a way out of this situation, not just for my sake but for the sake of my children.
I would not let this man's plans come to fruition. I had to keep my wits about me, even in this dire predicament.
I yelled, "I said, what do you want?!"
The man's expression hardened, and before I could react, he slapped me across the face. The sharp sting left me momentarily stunned.
I growled, struggling against the chains that bound me, but the restraints only dug in deeper, exacerbating my frustration.
He leaned closer, his face inches from mine. "Don't waste your breath shouting. You're in no position to demand answers. I'm in control here, and if you want to avoid further discomfort, you'll cooperate."
I glared at him, trying to mask the pain and anger I felt. "You think hurting me will make me comply?"
He chuckled darkly. "No, but it will make this process easier for both of us.
I need your help with something, and I assure you, you'll find it much more pleasant if you cooperate."
I swallowed hard, forcing myself to stay calm despite the throbbing pain and the rage boiling inside me.
"What exactly do you want me to do?" I asked, my voice steady despite the turmoil within.
He straightened, his demeanour shifting from menacing to calculated. "I need you to use your abilities to help me with a scheme I've been working on.
It involves Donte's empire, and I'm sure you can see how your unique position could be of great assistance."
I clenched my teeth, trying to ignore the throbbing in my face. "I'll never help you," I said firmly, though the fear for my children lingered in my mind.
The man's eyes narrowed. "We'll see about that. For now, I suggest you rest and prepare yourself.
The sooner you understand that resisting will only cause you more pain, the easier this will be for both of us."
With that, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I had to find a way out to protect my children and confront whatever twisted plans he had in store.
