Amara's PoV

The hallway was eerily quiet as I waited for Donte's return. The soft hum of the event in the background seemed miles away, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I couldn't shake the tension that coiled tightly within me, every muscle ready to spring into action at the slightest provocation.

And then, I heard it-the unmistakable sound of footsteps, hurried and heavy, moving swiftly in my direction.

My senses flared, instinct kicking in as I turned toward the noise.

Without a second thought, I let my vampirism take over, feeling the power surge through my veins.

The world slowed as I moved, my speed turning the approaching men into little more than slow-motion targets.

I met the first one head-on, slamming him against the wall with a force that made his bones crack audibly.

My fangs found his neck, and I drained the life from him in an instant, his body going limp as the
colour drained on his face.

There was no time to savour the rush of power.

More of them appeared, skidding to a halt as they took in the scene before themthe bodies of their comrades lying crumpled on the ground, my eyes burning with hunger and power.

Fear flickered in their eyes, but l was already moving again.

One by one, they fell, their lives extinguished as I dispatched them with deadly efficiency.

Their blood tasted metallic and warm on my lips, a bitter reminder of the darkness within me.

I didn't stop, didn't hesitate-until the last man was in my grasp, his life seeping away as my fangs pierced his flesh.

"Amara."

The sound of Donte's voice cut through the haze of bloodlust.

It was firm, grounding, and I felt the fog lift just enough to regain control.

Slowly, I withdrew my fangs from the man's neck, letting his lifeless body drop on the floor with a dull thud

The sound of Donte's voice cut through the haze of bloodlust. It was firm, grounding, and I felt the fog lift just enough to regain control.

Slowly, I withdrew my fangs from the man's neck, letting his lifeless body drop to the floor with a dull thud. I looked at Donte, my lips stained with blood.

His eyes held no fear, only a calm understanding mixed with something else-something I couldn't quite place.

I licked the blood from my lips, tasting the last of my victims as I willed my fangs to retract.

Using my vampire speed, I moved in front of him in an instant, our faces inches apart.

The world felt different in that moment, charged with a tension that had nothing to do with the bloodshed around us.

He didn't flinch, didn't back away. Instead, he loond into my eyes, searching for something in the depths of my gaze i wondered if he

saw the monster I had just unleashed or if he recognized the control l'd managed to reclaim. The silence between us was thick, the air heavy with unspoken words.

But all I could focus on was the way he was looking at melike he was seeing me for the first time.

Like, i was more than just a weapon he could wield. For a moment, I wasn't sure what to say, what to do.

But then I realized that nothing needed to be said. He knew, and I knew. We were in this together, whether we liked it or not.

Finally, I spoke, my voice barely more than a whisper. "They're gone." Donte nodded, his eyes still locked on mine. "Good."
