Donte's PoV

The events of the night were unsettling. Marissa's attack on Amara was a stark reminder of the dangers lurking within our own ranks.

I couldn't shake the image of Amara lying in bed, injured, her eyes wide with pain. It only made me more determined to get to the bottom of this.

As dawn approached, I found myself in my office, trying to focus on the mounting pile of paperwork.

The usual sound of the mansion waking up was a distant hum compared to the chaotic events from the night before.

My mind kept drifting back to Amara. I knew she was being looked after by Marcel, but I needed to be sure she was okay.

Marcel had been quick to act, stabilizing Amara and ensuring she was comfortable.

He was a steady presence, but I could see the concern etched on his face every time he glanced toward her room.

I appreciated his support, especially when he took charge of getting the supplies we needed in a crisis.

A knock on my office door pulled me from my thoughts. I looked up to see Marcel standing there, his expression serious.

"Donte, we need to talk," he said, stepping inside.

I motioned for him to sit, and he took a seat across from my desk. His usual easy demeanour was replaced with a more intense focus.

"I've been thinking about Marissa's attack," Marcel began. "There's more going on here than we initially thought."

"Agreed," I replied, leaning back in my chair. "I need to understand what her motivation is. This attack-this wasn't just a random act of aggression."

Marcel nodded. "Marissa has been increasingly hostile toward Amara. I did some digging and found out she's been deeply involved in some covert operations within the mafia. It's possible she sees Amara as a threat to her influence or position."

I rubbed my temples, feeling the weight of the situation. "I should have seen this coming.

I've been too focused on the external threats and not enough on the internal issues."

Marcel gave a slight shrug. "It's easy to get caught up in the bigger picture. But now we need to address the immediate threat. Marissa needs to be dealt with before she causes more damage."

"I agree," I said, my voice firm. "We need to confront her and find out what she's planning. I want to know why she sees Amara as such a threat and what else she might be hiding."

Marcel's eyes were sharp as he responded. "I'll start investigating her connections and any secret operations she might be involved in.

But we should also keep Amara under close observation. She's not safe until we get to the bottom of this."

I nodded. "I'll make sure Amara is protected, and I'll handle Marissa personally. We can't afford any more surprises."

Marcel stood, his expression resolute. "I'll get to work on this immediately. We need to act fast."

As Marcel left, I felt the weight of responsibility settle heavily on my shoulders.

The attack on Amara had exposed a dangerous vulnerability within our ranks. I had to act decisively to protect her and ensure the safety of everyone in my organization.

I stood up from my desk and walked to Amara's room, determined to check on her.

Despite everything, seeing her safe and recovering was my priority. The mansion felt different now, its corridors filled with an uneasy tension.

But I would do whatever it took to restore the sense of security that had been so abruptly shattered.

Entering her room, I found Amara propped up in bed, her eyes brightening at the sight of me.

I approached her, trying to keep my expression neutral despite the worry that gnawed at me.

"How are you feeling?" I asked gently, taking a seat beside her bed.

Amara gave me a tired but reassuring smile. "Better, thanks to Marcel. And thanks to you."

I reached out and took her hand, feeling a mix of relief and frustration. "We're going to get through this. I promise."

As I sat there with her, the events of the night replayed in my mind. Marissa's betrayal and the danger she posed were now my immediate concerns.

But for now, I focused on Amara, determined to keep her safe and to uncover the full extent of the threat that had emerged.
