The dimly lit room of the mansion's underground holding area was harsh and uninviting.

Its cold, concrete walls and metal furnishings created a chilling atmosphere, a perfect setting for the interrogation I was about to conduct.

Marissa was shackled to a chair, her face marked by bruises and her clothes dishevelled.

She looked up at me with defiant eyes, but beneath that façade, I could see the fear and anger simmering.

I paced the room, trying to control the anger that had been building inside me. Marissa had attempted to kill Amara, and her motives needed to be understood.

My methods for extracting the truth were far from gentle; it was a last resort when people refused to cooperate.

"Marissa," I said, my voice cold and deliberate. "You've had your chance to make this easy. Now, it's time to explain why you decided to attack Amara."

Her eyes flashed with defiance as she spat out, "I won't tell you anything."

I didn't respond immediately. Instead, I turned to the table beside me, where various instruments were laid out.

Each one served a specific purpose in making someone talk. I picked up a small, metal rod and approached her.

"Let's make this simple," I said. "Tell me why you did it, or we can continue with these measures until you break."

Marissa glared at me but didn't speak. I used the rod on her restraints, applying pressure just enough to make her wince.

Her resolve was strong, but I knew from experience that even the toughest people could be broken.

Minutes turned into hours as I employed various techniques, each designed to extract the truth. Despite her bravado,

Marissa's resistance was slowly wearing thin. She was a proud woman, but the combination of pain and relentless questioning was starting to crack her facade.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Marissa's resistance broke. Her voice trembled as she spoke. "Alright, alright! I'll tell you. Just stop, please."

I signalled to the guards to step back and set down the instruments. I moved closer to Marissa, my eyes fixed on her. "Tell me why you attacked Amara."

Marissa took a deep breath, her voice cracking as she began to explain. "It's not just about Amara. It's about you, Donte. I've loved you for years. Ever since I joined this mafia, I've been infatuated with you. But you never noticed me."

Her confession was unexpected, but it made sense. Her jealousy and anger were fueled by feelings she had harboured for a long time.

"When Amara came along, I saw her as a threat. She was getting closer to you, and it drove me mad.

You introduced her personally, and I couldn't stand it. I couldn't stand seeing you pay more attention to her than me."

The admission of her feelings and the jealousy that drove her actions was a revelation I hadn't anticipated.

It explained her violent reaction and the intensity of her actions against Amara.

"You were obsessed with me?" I asked, my tone a mixture of anger and disbelief.

Marissa nodded, tears welling in her eyes. "Yes. I was jealous and angry. I didn't want anyone else to take your attention away from me."

I took a deep breath, trying to process the intensity of her emotions. Her actions were inexcusable, but understanding her motives provided some clarity.

The pain she inflicted on Amara was driven by personal obsession and misplaced affection.

"Your feelings don't excuse your actions," I said firmly. "What you did was unforgivable, and there will be consequences for your betrayal."

Marissa's head drooped in defeat. "I understand."

I turned and walked out of the room, leaving Marissa with the guards. Her confession didn't absolve her of guilt, but it did explain the motives behind her actions.

As I walked back to the main area of the mansion, my thoughts were focused on Amara.

The knowledge of Marissa's obsession only made me more determined to protect her.

The damage had been done, and repairing the trust that had been shattered would take time.

But I was committed to ensuring Amara's safety and dealing with the fallout of Marissa's betrayal.

The revelation of Marissa's motives was just the beginning of addressing the consequences of her actions.
