Chapter 9

                                                                                 Lance's POV

I wish I could call Karen she's wise and could hopefully give me advice about this whole thing and I know she can give me advice about children with what she told me when I asked for advice originally. The reason I don't is I don't want to overwhelm Ash, especially considering how he acted when I asked him if I could take him in the poor boy went comatose for a few minutes.  I don't want to know how he would react to me telling Karen who would accidentally slip up when she's tired to the rest of the Elite Four and how they would react. I don't blame Karen but she's prone to letting this slip when she's sleep-deprived and I do not want to overwhelm Ash. His comfort and happiness are my top priorities above all else I only really really want to tell Clair since she's my only family left. 

My musing was cut off by a ring from my Rotom Phone and When I looked down and saw The Contact name for my Lawyer friend. I slid the button and accepted the call before I stepped out of the room. "Hey, Reef," I answered as I leaned against the wall next to the door.  "LANCE WATARU!!" Reef shouted and I winced from the onslaught of sound. "You can't just send me an email out of the blue saying you are going to adopt a child without context!?" Reef shouted in disbelief and yeah I messed up but I didn't think I could type out all of the emotions I was feeling and events that played out and do them justice. I said as much to Reef and that calmed him down and I took a deep breath.

"I found this kid a while back he looked scruffy and he was afraid to talk to me. I found him in Mahogany Town buying a canteen with his Pikachu and I was worried about him since he looked scruffy and thin so I followed him in hopes of talking with him. I got caught in a poacher's trap and the kid came out of the forest and told his Pikachu to use Iron Tail on the corner of the cage. I tried to reach out to talk with him but the moment I opened my mouth the kid ran and Reef I have never seen a child run so fast. I tried to follow him and I found a quickly abandoned campsite.  I originally thought this child was in Team Rocket either by choice, since he had nowhere else to go or he was being made under threat so I asked my Johto Elite four for advice and I got a varied degree of success so I took their advice and started approaching the child while being on what Will has coined as a "Workcation" When I took my work on the road.  I met the kid in Violet City after his Pikachu was extremely injured he spoke to me sure it was about why I was helping him but it was progress and he ran away once more. This happened a few times before I truly saw him again in Ecruteak City where he was visiting The Burnt Tower I followed Will's advice about getting him food since he looked so thing and I did I gave him Rice Balls he looked at me and contemplated for a moment before he took them and ran off. A few days later he gave me the basket back and I gave him some more food and that was our routine for a while till Goldenrod..." I paused to let Reef speak and boy did he. 

 "WHAT!!??" Reef shouted and I pitied him because I know that tone of voice the tone of I-want-to-rip-my-hair-out-and-bash-my-head-into-a-wall-but-I-have-to-hold-this-all-together.  After a few moments of deafening silence, Reef let out a breathy sigh. "Continue on while I get some coffee," Reef said. "He was watching me from one of the skyscrapers and when I asked him about the reason was that he wanted to understand why I cared about him so much. He ended up telling me his name which is Ash and he told me it was just Ash and he looked sad when he said it and he has yet to bring up any family." I said. " Are you at least with the kid now??" Reef sighed.

"Yeah, that's actually the next thing I have to tell you. I was going over the safety checks in Whitney's gym for her gym puzzle when his Pikachu ran up to me in the middle of the Gym. He kept grabbing the corner of my cape and tugging it toward the door in a frenzy. I excused myself before running after his Pikachu who was leading me into the forest where I found Ash with a gaping hole in his arm with Poison/Venom flowing through his veins making them purple and Ash writhe in pain.  I rushed him to the hospital here in GoldenROd where they determined he is extremely underweight and he was struck by Poison Jab is what the hospital determined. I brought up the adoption thing and after processing it he said he would like that and he fell asleep then I sent you that Email." I said.

"Ok thank you for the information but I'm going to need a bit more about the kid so you should talk to him when he wakes up so I can help you file an adoption request to the courts." reef said and I smiled a bit because his coffee was finally kicking in. "Ok I'll send you an email with more information later," I responded. "Ok, I'll start gathering some more information about how filling and the adoption process works and I'll send it to you later," Reef said and I heard papers rustling on the other end of the Phone. "Talk to you later Reef bye," I said and Reef echoed it back to me before I hung up. I stepped back inside the hospital room and Ash was still asleep and the heartbeat monitor was still beeping at a steady pace. 

I wonder what he went through to end up in the wilds of Johto all alone for so long? What happened to him before this and where he's from?  I wonder if he's gone on a journey before this and where he got his Pikachu from? I have so many questions but I don't want to scare him where he'll refuse to tell me so I have to be patient and he'll tell me when he's ready.  I just hope I can be a good parent to him and I pray to Arceus himself I can help him with whatever he needs and that he can trust me and open up to me. I thought to myself as I fed Pikachu an apple since he seemed to like them. "How did you two get here?" I whispered to the electric mouse as I patted his head. "Pika?" Pikachu said as he cocked his head to the side and looked at me in confusion and I just shook my head before turning my attention back to my work.

Wahoo Chapter Nine is done and we got an introduction to Lance's Lawyer friend Reef.  I DO NOT OWN any characters except Reef since he's my own character. Next chapter we get a lot of feelings so brace for that. For the next few weeks, it's going to be one parter so I apologize for that but I'm going super busy for the next few weeks.
