"My journey started off on the wrong foot. I woke up late because I pushed my alarm clock off in my sleep so I had to rush to Professor Oak's lab. He didn't have any starters left so he gave Pikachu." Ash said as he rubbed Pikachu's chin. The Professor is supposed to have extra Pokemon for situations like this ... I should probably have a chat with him about this.   Lance thought as Ash took a breath.

"Pikachu hated me first and refused to listen to me but when I tried to catch a Pidgey I missed and hit a Spearow and it called its buddies..." Ash said and Lance winced because everyone in Johto and Kanto knows never to mess with a Spearow because they've traumatized half the regions.  "They chased us until we fell into the river and we got drug quite a ways and when we got fished out we borrowed the Girl's bike to the nearest Pokemon center after the Sperow cornered us... I begged Pikachu to go inside the POkemon but he didn't listen and ended up getting struck by lightning frying them and the girl's bike alongside the Spearow and we barely made it to the Pokemon center. Then Team Rocket attacked..." Ash mumbled.

Lance blinked and he blinked again he's familiar with Team Rocket he'd taken out a few of their hideouts he knows how dangerous they are and now his child has gone up against them. "They tried to take the Pokemon from the Pokemon center and since it was out of power they could have actually done it but I peddled on a bike to give Nurse Joy enough power to transfer the rest of the Pokemon out. James one of Team Rocket's members had a Koffing that expelled a lot of gas and when Pikachu used Thunderbolt it ignited the gas blowing up the Viridian City Pokemon center..." Ash said and he avoided Lance's eyes at the last part afraid of how he would react.

Lance was fuming not at Ash but at Team Rocket because Ash, The Girl, and Nurse Joy could have died in that explosion because it totaled the Pokemon Center. Lance took a few calming breaths before he grabbed Ash's hand and pulled him into a hug. "I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that on the first day of your journey but I've got your back from here on out no matter what," Lance said Ash nodded slowly and after a moment Lance released his grip.

Ash told him stories of his journey about how Misty joined him on his travels and their journey up till after the first gym. Lance made a mental note to send a professional league inspector to check on the Pewter gym and a social worker to check on Flint's kids. Ash said he didn't want to talk about his journey anymore because his throat was sore since this was the most he'd spoken to another person in a long time.  Lance smiled and changed the subject easily and Ash smiled at the sentiment.

"I have someone I would like you to meet whenever you're ready," Lance said and Ash looked at him for a moment and asked. "Who?" Lance smiled. "My cousin Clair she's more like my sister so she'll be your Aunt especially since I don't have any siblings," Lance said and Ash stared at him in shock with a thousand-yard stare.

I've never had an Aunt or an Uncle before I wonder what it's like. Will she like me? Does she even want a nephew? Will she accept me? If she doesn't will Lance throw me out? He did say she's more like a sister than a cousin... Ash thought and Lance looked at him with a slight fear in his eyes because Ash wasn't responding to him no matter what he did.

Lance wrapped him in a hug and laid his head against his chest so Ash could hear his heartbeat which he was trying not to make sound frantic.                                                                                                        "Let me tell you this ok. Clair will love and adore you the moment she meets you she's just a bit much at times especially when she's excited. That's why I'm letting you pick the pace you can take it as slow or as fast as you want. The same goes for meeting anyone because as much as I would love to hide you away to keep you safe from anyone it's your choice when you want to meet others and be introduced as my son. It's up to you unless I deem the situation unsafe. Remember I'm not ashamed of you in the slightest I don't want others to overwhelm you or hurt you but no matter what you have my full support backing you." Lance said into Ash's curls and that seemed to snap Ash back to reality Ash cried into Lance's shirt and Lance just held him ever tighter.

They stayed like that for a long time and when Ash fell asleep Lance sat down and reclinded the armchair all the way back. He laid Ash on his chest and used his cape as a blanket since he started waking up when Lance tried to lay him back down.  I guess hearing and feeling me so close gives him a sense of security and I'll happily give it to him...I know he's incredibly young only ten but while he's asleep he looks even younger especially since he's so small and underweight. I'll give my all to protect him even if he can defend himself... I can understand the feeling when a parent holds their child for the first time like you hold the very world in your arms to know you'll be raising this small human and all the love makes you feel like you're about to burst. Those are just parts of the feeling the rest is just about indescribable...I may not be holding a newborn that I helped bring into the world but that doesn't make a difference he's my kid now. I'll never understand why Delia abandoned him just like that when she felt all of these emotions when she brought him into this world and raised him.  Lance thought to himself as he answered emails and watched Ash's chest steadily rise and fall every so often.

Eventually, Lance nodded off holding Ash against his chest. About an hour later a nurse came in to check on Ash. When she saw them she smiled and quietly backed out of the room shutting the door behind her.

Wahoo chapter 12 is done!! This one was a bit boring but we did get some info about how Lance is going to handle the public with his son once it gets out.  This is a part of the three-part end-of-the-month special I'm running which I hope you enjoy. I don't have much else to say I hope you have a good day and a good rest of your week and see you next week.-K
