Bhagya
“Shree, utho.”
A soft voice called, making me snuggle deeper into something warm. I did not realize where I was at but it was comfortable. Hearing a deep, throaty chuckle I slowly tried opening my eyes.
(Wake up.)Flashes of today's evening and the last few days came back to me in a rush, making me jolt open my eyes.
I was married. And probably I was sleeping on him? Inside a freaking car? On my way to in-laws? Really Amazing.Best way to start my married life. Definitely.
“Here.”
Slowly rubbing my eyes to wake up completely I turned to face him and saw he was forwarding me a bottle of water. Saying a slow thank you I accepted and opening it took a few quick gulps. I was definitely thirsty.“Slowly slowly.”
He immediately came closer with a tissue in his hands and tried removing the water that I accidentally spilled while rushing to drink water.Isiliye maa bolti hai, jaldi ka kaam shaitan ka.
(That's why mother says, quick work is the devil's work.)I internally rolled my eyes at my subconscious for being my mother for no reason at all. How does it even work? It's my subconscious yet the amount of times it rebukes or scolds feels like it belongs to someone else.
Shaking my head to remove the absurd thoughts I took the tissue from his hand I tried wiping water from my dress.
“We'll soon be reaching home. You can take a rest later.” He said.
“I won't be able to sleep easily now. You should have woken me up when I was sleeping earlier. Pata nahi kaise so gayi mai.” I whispered the last part to myself but probably he did listen because he was looking at me with a glint in his eyes, giving me an amusing smile.
(I don't know how I slept earlier.)“You just looked very adorable and cute and I did not had the heart to wake you up.” He replied.
“Whatever.”
Saying that I faced the window.Slowly pulling down it till half, I leaned my face near the door. Nightlife of Delhi has always attracted me. While in the day the city laughs and shines in brightness but during night it is just calm and soothing. Maybe it has nothing to do about the city and everything to do with the time of the day yet late nights comfort me with a different sense of happiness.
“What?” I asked once I realized that Achyut continued looking at me. He simply shook his head in no but still did not look away. Feeling a bit conscious of whether I had something on my face or not, I wiped my face with bare hands and tried checking my phone's camera.
Keyword- tried.
Achyut leaned closer and took the phone from my hand. Slowly cupping my cheeks with one hand, while his other hand was holding my phone, he dropped a kiss on my forehead. His lips staying there for a moment more than usual.
Taking a deep breath he put his forehead on mine, as he made eye contact with me.
“Shaadi mubarak ho, shree.”
His voice wasn't a decibel above a whisper and still it was enough to put my whole body on fire.
(Congratulations for the wedding, Shree.)Maybe it was about the closed space. Or maybe it was about the way his eyes did not waver from my face anywhere else. Or maybe it was about the fact that we were married. Or maybe it had everything to do with the person himself.
But I felt my heart skip a beat. It was scientifically difficult to explain what happened or how it happened but it was something very close to that.
“Relax. Now breathe.”
Chuckling he slowly wrapped his hands around me, pulling closer to himself. Allowing his warmth to engulf me in a cocoon of comfortness, I tightened my hold around his torso, keeping my head on his chest.
