The school hallways buzzed with the usual chaos of a Friday morning. Y/N trudged to her locker, her steps heavy with the weight of everything that happened the previous day. She sighed, thinking about how different things would be if she didn't feel so out of place, not just here at school, but at home too. Her older siblings barely spoke to her unless they had to. Most of the time, she felt invisible. As she opened her locker, shoving her books inside, the sting of her siblings' indifference gnawed at her. They didn't like her, or at least that's how it felt. No one had her back, and she was always the odd one out.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of giggles and conversations passing her by. She spotted a group of classmates heading toward the cafeteria, laughing as if they had no cares in the world. Y/N glanced down at her phone. It was still early before first period, but she didn't feel like sitting around waiting for class to start.
The day already felt long, and it had just begun.
She sighed again and turned, heading for her favorite spot on campus—the old bench near the back of the school, under the oak trees. It was quiet there, away from the noise, away from everything. She always went there when she needed a break from the pressures of school and the weight of being the youngest at home, where her older siblings barely acknowledged her existence. As she sat down, her phone buzzed in her pocket. It was a text from Sunghoon.
Sunghoon: "How are you feeling? Better today?"
Y/N bit her lip, staring at the screen. She still felt terrible about the fight yesterday, even though Sunghoon kept saying it wasn't her fault. The bruising on his nose had faded a bit, but she knew it was still there, a reminder of how messy everything had gotten.
Y/N: "I'm fine. Still sorry about everything though."
She locked her phone and leaned back on the bench, watching the leaves sway in the morning breeze. She could hear the faint sound of students talking nearby, but it was muffled, like she was in her own little bubble.
The bell rang, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was time for first period. As she stood up, she felt a sinking feeling in her chest, the same one she always got when she thought about going home later. Another weekend spent being ignored by her siblings while they went off with their friends or locked themselves in their rooms, leaving Y/N behind.
She wished she could fast-forward through the day and get it over with. Fridays were supposed to be fun, but for her, they were just a reminder of how alone she felt.As she walked into her first class, she noticed Ni-ki sitting in his usual spot. Their eyes met for a brief second before Y/N quickly looked away, heading toward her seat at the front of the classroom. She didn't know what to say to him after yesterday. She could still feel the tension between them, lingering like a cloud over her head.
The day dragged on. By lunchtime, Y/N was back on the bench, staring at her phone again. She wanted to talk to someone, anyone, but she didn't know who. She thought about texting her siblings, but then quickly dismissed the idea. What would she even say?
"Hey, do you want to hang out this weekend?" she imagined herself typing, only to be left on read, like always.
As she sat there, her phone buzzed again. It was another text from Sunghoon.
Sunghoon: "Wanna hang out after school?"
Y/N stared at the message for a moment, her thumb hovering over the keyboard. Part of her wanted to say no, to just go home and be alone, like she always did.
Y/N: "I kinda just want to go home today."
She hit send before she could change her mind.
Finally the day was over and Y/N headed home. The front door clicked shut behind Y/N as she walked into the house, the weight of the school day still lingering on her shoulders. She dropped her backpack by the door and slipped off her shoes, ready for the usual routine of heading straight to her room. But as soon as she stepped into the living room, she noticed her parents sitting together, grinning like they were holding onto some big secret.
