It was in the late afternoon when they arrived at the CIA facility. During the lengthy car ride, Emma was informed by Charles and Eric that there will be a few other 'mutants' here. Once they had arrived, someone showed her to where the other mutants already were. Charles claimed that he would have taken her himself but he has some other business to attend to.

She walked down the bare hallway towards the large door that was at the end. She anxiously played with the sleeve of her sweater as she thought over all of the different possibilities of what could happen when she opened the door. She took a deep breath and smoothed out her purple sweater and opened the door.

Inside, Emma was met with 6 different pairs of eyes. She nervously scanned over the room, taking in everyone until her eyes locked with a pair of familiar crystal blue ones. Her breath hitched in her throat as the owner of those eyes shot straight up out of his seat with a surprised expression of recognition on his face.

"Alex?" Emma breathed out in disbelief.

"Emma...I see you're still shorter than me" He greeted with a half hearted joke as he clenched his jaw in what was a mixture of guilt, shame, fear, happiness, and relief. She continued to just stare at him as she was experiencing a tornado of different emotions where she couldn't decide what she felt. She couldn't decide if she was mad at him for leaving her or if she was happy to know that he was alive and well.

"Do you guys know- shhh" A boy with glasses started to ask before he was shushed by everyone else. Alex glanced over at the group and rolled his eyes before looking back towards Emma.

"Do you wanna talk outside?" He asked her in hopes that he would be able to have the talk that he's been dreading for the past year without being interrupted by the group. Emma nodded her head and exited the room followed by Alex. The rest of the group waited a moment until they left, and huddled up peering out the large window in order to watch the two talk.

Emma stopped walking and turned back to look at Alex. She stared at him for a moment before slowly advancing to towards him. She stopped right in front of him and looked up into his eyes. He stared at her, taking her in. She was slightly taller than when he last saw her and her hair was noticeably longer. Her sense of style certainly hasn't changed. He stared into her chocolate brown eyes as they started to gloss over. Her beautiful eyes that he could always get lost in. She was absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous.

Her brows furrowed with rage as she pulled back her hand to slap him. Alex noticed this and braced for impact since he knew he deserved it. However, right as her hand  was about to make contact she hesitated and gently cupped his cheek. She rubbed her thumb on his cheek as her facial expression softened. He closed his eyes and leaned into her touch. His hand clasped around her wrist with his own thumb rubbing the top of her hand before opening his eyes to look back at her.

"W-where did you go?" She finally asked as her voice cracked. His heart shattered as she spoke. He stared into her eyes a moment longer before speaking.

"I thought I made the right choice." He breathed out. Emma looked at him confused as she felt the guilt practically radiating off of Alex.

"When I discovered my mutant abilities, I didn't want you to find out. Because I didn't want you to get hurt. My power...it's too dangerous and I can't control it. I don't know what I'd do with myself if you got hurt because of me. There were some other things went down too but I don't really want to talk about that right now." He confessed to her while slightly hinting at the solitary confinement prison he was locked up in for months. Through out the months he stayed in that prison, the only thing he could think about was Emma. And he had unintentionally grown great feelings for her and never had the chance to tell her. Emma stared into his eyes, sensing he was hiding a bit of information to himself but she didn't want to ouch him further than she already had.

"You truly are an idiot. Yknow that?" Emma stated and removed her hand from his cheek. He just looked at her confused as he missed the warmth of her hand on his cheek.

"I was your best friend Alex! You were supposed to come to me with your problems! Do you not realize you aren't alone? I cared about you Alex, I still do. I would've helped you figure it out! Like you helped me with mine I have been so so worried about you. At one point I thought you were dead! Do you know how horrible that is? To think that the one person in the world who you've ever been able to confide in just disappeared and could potentially be dead? Because let me tell you it's horrible." Her rant was cut off by Alex who wrapped his arms around her smaller frame into a bear hug.

"I know and I'm so sorry." He mumbled into her hair. She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head into his chest. God, how she's missed his hugs. They were always so warm and made her feel safe and at home.

"You're a jerk."
"I know."
"You're so stupid."
"I know."
"You're a freaking idiot"
"I know."

They went back and forth like this for a while before Emma was able to get a hold of herself.

"But I missed you." She whispered into his chest.
"I missed you too Em." Alex whispered back as he pat the back of her head. He slowly pulled away from the hug and placed his hands on her shoulders.

"Now, don't you think we should head on inside? I bet the rest of the group have been watching the whole time." He said with a fake annoyed eye roll. Emma let out a laugh as she and Alex looked towards the window where everyone had been watching them. Emma gave them a little wave which they all nervously returned since they were caught. She let out another laugh before drying her watery eyes and dragging Alex towards the door.

And just like that the dynamic duo were back to normal as if nothing had ever happened.
