Max's POV

The next morning, Renee and I made our way to the brunch spot where we were meeting our friends. The sun was shining brightly, and despite the slight ache in my muscles, I felt a warmth in my chest that had nothing to do with the weather. Renee had her hand resting possessively on the small of my back as we walked, a smirk playing on her lips.

We stepped into the café, and I immediately spotted our friends gathered around a large table near the window. Bella was the first to notice us, her eyes lighting up with mischief. She nudged Alexander, who was mid-sip of his coffee, and he nearly choked as he turned to look at us. Towa and Maddy, already caught up in some conversation, glanced our way too, and I could see the knowing glances they exchanged.

As we approached the table, Bella couldn't resist. "Well, well, well, look who decided to show up. I was starting to think you two might have slept in."

"Or not slept at all," Alexander added with a wink, earning a few chuckles from the group.

I felt my cheeks heat up, but before I could say anything, Towa chimed in.

"You could use some makeup classes Max, you're not really good at covering everything up" she said, referring to the multiple purple hickeys on my neck and collar bones.

Renee slid into the chair next to me, her eyes told me she was enjoying this way too much. I could practically hear her thoughts: Yeah, I did that.

I groaned, burying my face in my hands as the teasing continued. Maddy tried to stifle a laugh but failed miserably. I playfully swatted her arm, but the smile on my face gave me away. "Okay, okay, you've had your fun. Can we order now? I'm starving."

Renee, sitting close beside me, leaned over to peer at my menu, her hand resting casually on my thigh under the table.

"I'm thinking of getting the avocado toast with poached egg" I said to Renee, whose head was resting on my shoulder. "Maybe some pancakes and some fruits too, what are you getting ?"

"Pancakes for sure," Renee replied, her eyes scanning the options. "Maybe a toast, but I don't know which one yet."

I leaned in closer, I forgot my glasses at home. "Do you want us to get two different ones and share?"

She smiled, "Oh yeah, that could be good too. Let's do that"

The waiter approached, and we quickly placed our orders. "I'll be back with your food soon," he said with a friendly smile before heading off to the kitchen.

As soon as he left, Bella leaned back in her chair, her expression softening as she looked at me with concern. "Max, I didn't get a chance to ask you last night, but how did you feel during the party? Were there any moments when you felt bad or overwhelmed, or...?"

I could feel the eyes of our friends on me, all of them waiting for my answer. God they are so sweet and caring. I chuckled softly.

"Guys, I'm fine ! The party was perfect, I felt great" I saw a few relieved smiles but kept going. "And I only cried once, but that was because of Renee's song," I admitted, glancing at Renee.
