A few days later, Everest was in her room, staring at the book that had revealed so much about her past. She couldn't stop thinking about the mysterious Husky and the secrets that still lay hidden. Just then, she heard a familiar voice calling her name.

"Everest! Are you home?" Barnacles' voice echoed through the hall.

Everest quickly closed the book and tucked it under her pillow. She took a deep breath and walked out to greet her adoptive older brother.

"Hey, Barnacles! What brings you here?" she asked, trying to sound casual.

Barnacles smiled warmly. "Just wanted to check on you. It's been a while since we had a proper chat."

Everest nodded, feeling a pang of guilt for keeping the new information from him. "Yeah, it's been busy around here."

Barnacles looked around the room, his eyes landing on the pillow where the book was hidden. "Everything okay? You seem a bit... distracted."

Everest forced a smile. "I'm fine, really. Just a lot on my mind."

Barnacles raised an eyebrow but didn't press further. "Well, if you ever need to talk, you know I'm here for you."

"I know," Everest said softly. "Thanks, Barnacles."

They spent the rest of the afternoon catching up, but Everest's mind kept drifting back to the book and the secrets it held. She knew she had to find out more, but for now, she would keep it to herself. The journey ahead was hers to face, and she wasn't ready to share it just yet.
