TANGLED PATHS
Sunday, August 17th, 1980
That morning, Lisa was busy packing her things in her bedroom, preparing for her stay at her parents' house. Mrs Lee, who would be taking care of the apartment.
It took Lisa about three hours to get to her parents' home by taxi. When she arrived, the taxi driver helped her unload her luggage and bring it to the front door.
"Thank you," Lisa said to the driver as she walked toward the door.
Her father opened the door to greet her. Lisa smiled as he pulled her into a warm hug, kissing her on the top of her head.
"Hi, Dad," Lisa said, her voice full of affection.
"Lisa, Come on in," Yoonseok replied. "Let's have some breakfast together. Your mom is in the kitchen, eagerly waiting for you."
Lisa stepped inside, feeling comfort and anticipation for the time with her family, especially since they would be celebrating her niece and nephew's birthdays that evening.
Lisa entered the kitchen where her mother, was bustling around, preparing breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, tea and baked goods filled the air.
"Lisa!" Her mother exclaimed, turning with a beaming smile. She wiped her hands on a towel and embraced Lisa warmly. "It’s so good to see you!"
Lisa returned the hug, her heart swelling with familial love. "Everything smells amazing."
She chuckled, her eyes twinkling. "I wanted to make sure we had a special breakfast for you. We’re all excited about the party later."
As they sat down to eat, Yoonseok joined them, and the conversation flowed easily.
“How’s things at work?” Yoonseok asked, glancing over at Lisa as she sipped the hot tea her mother had prepared.
“Everything’s good,” Lisa replied, setting the cup down.
Yoonseok nodded in understanding. “That’s good to hear.”
Her mother looked at her with concern. "Have you been sleeping and eating well?"
Lisa smiled warmly and nodded. "I did. Mrs. Lee has been taking great care of me. Her cooking is always a treat."
Her eyes softened at Lisa. "It's been so long since we last heard anything about Mrs. Lee," she said, a hint of nostalgia in her voice.
Yoonseok nodded, leaning back in his chair. "The last thing we heard was that she was sick and had to go back to Kyoto for a while. Is she doing better now?"
"She is," Lisa replied. "She’s much stronger and healthier these days. She's even been insisting on doing more around the apartment, despite my protests."
