Chapter 16
Mithali's plan to send Sanjay away to Delhi worked smoothly. Sanjay reluctantly went to Delhi to write the research paper, understanding that it was better to comply than face further consequences. His trips back to college were brief and focused solely on taking exams. He didn't linger, making sure to leave as soon as his exams were over, returning immediately to Delhi.
Avni, relieved by his absence, was able to concentrate on her studies without the anxiety of encountering Sanjay. The different exam schedules meant their paths never crossed, giving Avni the peace of mind she needed to focus on her work and begin to heal from the trauma she had endured.
Neil, who had been her unwavering support throughout the ordeal, noticed the subtle changes in Avni. She was beginning to smile more often, and her concentration was returning to her academics and dance. The knowledge that Sanjay was no longer a daily threat had lifted a heavy burden from her, allowing her to rediscover her passion and strength.
During the exam period, Avni focused entirely on her studies. She was determined to do well, not only for herself but to prove that she wouldn't be defined by what had happened. With Neil by her side, encouraging her every step of the way, she felt a renewed sense of purpose.
On the day of her final exam, Avni walked into the exam hall with her head held high. She didn't see Sanjay, and for the first time in a long while, she felt at ease. The pressure of the exams seemed less daunting without the constant fear of running into him. When she handed in her last paper, there was a sense of closure, not just for the exams, but for the dark chapter that Sanjay had brought into her life.
As she stepped out of the exam hall, Avni took a deep breath, feeling a weight lift from her shoulders. She was finally free from his shadow, and she knew that whatever happened next, she was ready to face it.
-------------------------------------------------------
The night had begun like a dream, a farewell for the seniors that was meant to be filled with joy, laughter, and memories. Among those being celebrated were Vidhyut, Mithali, and unfortunately for Avni, Sanjay. Despite the underlying tension caused by his presence, Avni had been genuinely excited. She wanted to make the night special, something she and her friends would remember fondly for years to come.
She had started the evening with a mesmerizing entry dance, her lehenga flowing gracefully as she moved across the stage. Her performance had captivated everyone in the room, but after the dance, Avni changed into a beautiful black saree that accentuated her elegance and maturity. She was stunning, and she knew it, but what mattered most to her was the look in Neil's eyes when he saw her.
Neil had been entranced by her beauty. The way the black saree draped over her, highlighting her every movement, made it impossible for him to look away. He was captivated not just by her appearance, but by the confidence she exuded. Yet, Neil was careful not to let his admiration be too obvious, afraid that it might make Avni uncomfortable. Still, no matter how much he tried, his eyes kept finding their way back to her. There was something between them, something neither fully understood yet, but it was undeniable.
As the night progressed, music filled the air, and the atmosphere became more relaxed. Everyone was dancing, some with friends, others with partners. Avni, feeling a connection she couldn't quite explain, asked Neil to dance with her. He agreed without hesitation, and together they swayed to the rhythm, lost in the moment.
"Neil," Avni began softly as they danced, "thank you for always being there for me." Her voice was sincere, laced with emotions she had yet to fully understand. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Neil looked down at her, his heart swelling with affection. "Avni, I'll always be there for you," he replied, his tone equally soft but firm with conviction. "I'll always protect you, no matter what."
