Eventually, there was a trial. Once the news broke that there was a third person involved in Woodsboro and that Stu and Billy were confirmed to be alive, apparently, their parents got in contact with them. They both are rich families and so they ended up getting the best lawyers they could for the boys.
They used my idea, saying that Roman killed everyone but Sidney and Neal. They said they were manipulated into doing it by Roman threatening their families and me.
I watched the trial on the news, as it was too painful to go in person. That is until I was called in to testify.
It was hard, seeing the boys, especially when they wouldn't meet my gaze. I testified in their favor, confirming that they never killed anyone but Sidney and Neal. And explaining what happened with Roman and the story he told me, just changed a bit to match what the boys had been saying.
By the end of the long trial, the boys were sentenced with fifteen years to life, which is way less than they would have gotten, or should have gotten, really. They never spoke a word to me, and when I tried calling the prison to talk to one of them or set up a visit, they said that the boys refused visitors.
Dewey came by every so often, trying to make sure I was doing okay. Sometimes Gale was with him, seeing as how they are engaged now. We were trying to make amends, for Dewey's sake.
Mark came by a couple times, but I was keeping a slight distance from him. I still haven't answered him about the date he asked me on when he was in the hospital. He didn't seem to mind though, he was friendly and supportive, always there when I needed a shoulder to cry on or someone to laugh with. Being around him reminded me of Randy and I found myself smiling more when he was around.
I went back to work, only I went to the boss and talked to them about having more say in my scripts. They agreed and we were finally getting started on the movie. Everything was slowly but surely, getting better and falling into place.
