I got a cab to my work and finally picked up my car before rushing home. I nervously put in the code, making sure the gate shut before heading into the house. Once inside, I noticed everything looked like it did yesterday before I left.

I went upstairs, going right to the guest bedroom. I shut the door and then went to the closet. I turned on the light and stepped closer to the wall, pressing on the false panel. I pulled it away and looked at the heavy metal door. I took a shaky breath, putting in the code, watching as the light turned green and I heard the lock click. I gripped the handle, pulling the door open.

The light was off inside, but the closet light let me see faintly into the small room. "Guys?" I called out, still not seeing them, worry setting in.

I stepped into the room, my hand instantly finding the light switch and flipping it on. I looked around, my chest tightening when all I saw was an empty room.

I ran out of the room, going to mine and then downstairs, not finding them anywhere. "Fuck!" I yelled, tossing a pillow off the couch as I fell down onto it.

I set my head in my hands, tears of both frustration and sadness flowing down my cheeks. Where are they?

My phone started to ring and I wiped my eyes, getting up and answering. "Hello?"

"Hazel, are you okay?" Dewey asked through the phone.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why?" I tried to keep my voice even, to make sure he couldn't tell I was crying.

"Wallace just told us that they found Billy and Stu down the road from your house, hiding a car."

"Shit," I cursed, running my hand through my hair. "Are they at the station?"

"Well,-" he started, but I cut him off before he could say anything else.

"Are they okay?" I asked, my chest tightening.

"They had weapons, they wouldn't put them down," he sighed.

"Dewey," I mumbled, holding back a sob. "Are they okay?"

"They are both in critical condition. No one knows if they're going to make it."

I felt my heart stop and I shot up, rushing to my door. "I'm on my way."

"Hazel-" I hung up before Dewey could finish what he was saying as I went out to my car. I got in, started it up, and sped out of the gate, not even stopping to make sure it closed behind me.

I made it to the hospital in record time, parking in the closest space I could find and running inside. I found Dewey and Gale where I had left them only an hour or so ago. "Where are they?" I asked as soon as I was close enough.

"They're in surgery. Hazel, you shouldn't be here," Dewey sighed.

"Why not?" I clenched my jaw, annoyed he was trying to keep me from them.

"I don't know if you've had any part in hiding them, but if you have, you being here, being this upset, it's not going to help you any."

"I don't care, I need to see them."

"You can't, they're in surgery and once that's done, they'll be under police surveillance until they're taken to the jail," Gale spoke up.

I shook my head. "They have to let me see them."

"Hazel, I wondered when you'd be here."

I spun around when I heard Wallace. He had a smug smile as he made his way closer. I narrowed my eyes, "What is that supposed to mean?"

"Haze," Dewey mumbled in warning.

"Just that they were found not far from your home, and you said yourself, you knew they were here."

"I knew they were here because they called me."

He nodded, stepping closer. "And I'm sure your phone records will show that."

Shit. They never actually called, only Roman. I really hope they can't tell it was him. "Yes, it will."

He looked me over again before taking a step back. "Well, if these two make it through the operations, I can assure you, they'll be going away for a long time."

I nodded. "Right. As long as you didn't murder them."

He chuckled. "Murder would be mercy for them."

I shook my head, trying to keep the fury I was feeling off of my face. He walked away and I fell down into a chair behind me. "Fuck," I mumbled, chewing on my lip.

Dewey and Gale sat in the chairs across from me. "Hey, kid, everything is going to be okay."

I took a shaky breath, dragging my gaze up to meet his. "I hope so."
