Chapter Six
────────────────────The ground beneath Catarina suddenly and unexpectedly began to shake, and before she knew it, she was hurled across the room with tremendous force. The violent movement swept her off her feet, and she was slammed to the floor with a massive impact. The fall catapulted her right next to the door, near Steve and Tony, whose figures loomed before her.
With a painful groan, Catarina let herself lie on the floor and rolled over to ease the pain caused by the impact. The jolt had shaken her up badly, and a sharp pain coursed through her body. The destruction and sudden movement had tensed her muscles and left her joints aching. She needed a moment to orient herself as she tried to regain her composure.
When Catarina finally managed to get up, she saw Tony leaning over her. His face was marked with deep concern as he carefully helped her to her feet. His eyes searched hers, and the tension in his voice was unmistakable as he asked, "Are you okay?"
Tony was visibly worried about his sister. Catarina nodded weakly and tried to cough the fine dust out of her lungs that had dispersed into the air due to the sudden impact and destruction. Her voice, despite her exhaustion and the pain still coursing through her, was soothing as she said, "I’m okay."
Steve, who had also been looking around, turned to Tony with an urgent tone. "Come on, suit up." The concern in Steve’s voice was evident as he cast one last worried glance at Catarina. "I’m fine. Go!" Catarina replied with a tired smile that tried to mask her pain. Her voice was feeble but determined. Tony nodded in understanding, gave her a brief glance, and then followed the Captain out of the room.
As the noise of the explosive destruction gradually subsided, Catarina turned around and surveyed the chaos the lab had become. The room was a picture of wrath and destruction. Debris was scattered everywhere, and the devices that had previously worked with precision and reliability were now nothing more than ruins. Natasha and Banner had apparently fallen several levels below, which posed a serious situation. Catarina knew she had to act quickly to ensure her teammates were safe.
With trembling hands, she reached for the communication device and tried to contact Natasha. "Nat, can you hear me?" she asked, striving to keep her voice calm and steady. Even though she tried not to worry, she was concerned about the red-haired agent’s whereabouts.
A brief cough was heard, followed by Natasha’s voice coming through the communicator: "Yes, I can hear you. Banner and I are down here. We’re fine." Catarina breathed a sigh of relief. "I’m coming to you," she replied, preparing to move. But her relief was short-lived as Fury’s voice came through from the other side of the destroyed lab: "No, Stark. Go to the detention level, no one must get too close to Loki." Natasha added, to reassure Catarina: "We’ll manage, Cat."
Catarina nodded resolutely, even though Fury couldn’t see her. "Yes, Sir." Without further delay, she headed towards the detention level, determined to fulfill her duty and handle the situation.
