Chapter Thirteen
────────────────────The dull, thundering sound of the engines filled the stuffy cabin of the transport plane. The air was heavy, threaded with a tense silence. The cramped cabin amplified the sense of oppression, while the floor beneath them trembled. The upcoming mission weighed heavily on the team's shoulders, yet the monotonous hum of the machines served as a constant, helping them maintain focus.
In front of them, a screen lit up, displaying the silhouette of the Lemurian Star—a massive mobile satellite launch platform, now in the hands of ruthless pirates. A high-risk mission awaited the team, an operation where precision and discipline would mean the difference between life and death.
Standing apart from the others, Catarina lingered in a shadowed corner of the room. Her fingers absently spun the small data chip she had received from Director Fury just a few hours earlier. The familiar motion helped her organize her thoughts while processing the significance of the upcoming mission. On this chip were crucial details that could turn the tide—information about the pirates and the ship that had been hidden from the team until now. Her eyes traced the surface of the chip as she mentally reviewed the data Fury had urgently entrusted to her.
With firm steps, Brock Rumlow, the leader of the S.T.R.I.K.E. team, stepped forward. His mere presence seemed to intensify the already charged atmosphere as he began outlining the mission details. "The target is the Lemurian Star," he began, his voice factual and matter-of-fact. "It was hijacked about 93 minutes ago, shortly after launching a satellite into space. Pirates have taken control of the ship."
In one corner of the cabin sat Steve Rogers, the Captain, with his arms crossed. His gaze was alert, brow slightly furrowed as he absorbed every movement and word spoken. "Were there any demands?" he asked, his tone calm but with an underlying urgency. His eyes drilled into Rumlow as he awaited the response. "One and a half billion dollars," came the dry reply. Rumlow's tone gave no hint of the gravity of the situation, but Steve wasn’t fooled.
He leaned forward slightly, his brow furrowing deeper. "Why so much?" he pressed. At that moment, Catarina stepped closer, standing beside Natasha, who silently watched the screen. "Because the ship belongs to S.H.I.E.L.D.," she answered curtly, her eyes fixed on the image of the Lemurian Star. Her voice was cool, almost emotionless, but the implications of her words left no doubt as to the seriousness of the situation.
Natasha, the red-haired spy, nodded slightly. "The pirates know exactly what they’re doing. They must have a good reason for targeting this specific ship." Her tone was analytical, almost detached, as if she were observing the situation from the outside. Yet, a spark in her eyes betrayed her sharp attention and keen mind. Steve, still staring at the image of the Lemurian Star, seemed lost in thought. "So, it wasn’t a random target," he murmured quietly, more to himself than to the others. His gaze briefly shifted to Catarina, as if seeking confirmation of his suspicion in her expression.
