Chapter Eight
────────────────────Catarina fell backward, with no chance to save herself, along the outer facade of the imposing Stark Tower. The dizzying sensation of free fall overtook her as the tower's glass walls blurred by in a streak. The icy wind whipped mercilessly against her body, causing her hair to whirl wildly in the air. Every breath was a battle against the cold air slicing into her lungs.
Desperately, she reached out her hands, grasping for something that wasn't there. Her fingers sliced through the air, grasping at emptiness, leaving only the painful awareness of helplessness. Without a parachute, flying suit, or any means of rescue, she hurtled uncontrollably towards the hard ground below, approaching with menacing speed.
Suddenly, Catarina's eyes flew open. Amid the whirlpool of panic and wind, she saw a familiar figure—Tony. He had followed her, driven by a determination that knew no obstacles. Behind him, a new Iron Man suit was flying in, like a mechanical savior at the last moment. Hope flared within her as she reached up and shouted with all the strength she had left, "TONY!"
But the roaring wind played with her hair, which fell like a thick veil over her face, obscuring her vision. The seconds stretched out, each heartbeat an echo of fear, until she suddenly felt a jolt. The airflow around her changed direction, becoming gentler, as iron hands wrapped firmly around her back. She felt the familiar, cool touch of metal and was pressed against a hard, yet reassuring chest.
"I've got you," Tony's voice came, deep and soothing, and immediately, part of her fear dissipated. Catarina dared to lift her head and looked into her brother's face. His visor was raised, and his eyes, filled with concern and relief, met hers. She was safe in his arms, floating just a few meters above the ground, right in front of the Tower. The danger was not over yet, but for this moment, she was safe.
"I’ve got you, little one," Tony repeated, his voice softer now, almost tender. He gently stroked her hair with one hand as she clung to him, unable to suppress the shivering that ran through her body. His grip was firm but protective, and his face reflected the worry of a brother who had almost lost his sister.
As soon as she was back on solid ground, Tony did not leave her side for a moment. "Are you hurt? Are you okay?" he asked urgently, his voice pressing and full of concern.
"It's all right," Catarina replied, her voice still trembling slightly as she looked at him with a reassuring smile. She slowly released him as she felt the solid ground beneath her. Tony gently placed a hand on her cheek, his gaze penetrating as he made sure she was truly unharmed. His hand trembled slightly, a barely noticeable trace of the fear he had felt.
"Loki will pay for this," Tony hissed, his eyes turning upward where the mad god still stood on the balcony, a dark shadow against the swirling sky. Catarina’s gaze followed his, before she shook her head resolutely. "Wait, you need to get up there and make sure the portal doesn’t open," she said firmly, her voice filled with determination.
