Chapter Seven
────────────────────The pilot expertly maneuvered the jet onto the flight deck of Stark Tower in New York. The state-of-the-art building, which rose majestically over Manhattan's skyline, gleamed in the sunlight. As the aircraft safely touched down on the deck, the ground vibrated slightly under the heavy tires of the jet.
Loki led Catarina down to the penthouse with a self-satisfied smile. She followed him, alert, her senses heightened, and although she tried to conceal her nervousness, she didn't miss the small details around her. Just before they entered the elevator, she caught a fleeting glimpse of the Tesseract, encased in a complex device. The cosmic cube shimmered with an eerie blue light, its energy palpable even through the thick glass that surrounded it. Catarina could hardly tear her gaze away, but Loki pulled her onward, deeper into the lion's den.
Catarina forced herself to stay calm as she tried to anticipate Loki's next moves. Maybe, she thought, he would reveal his plan to her, as villains so often do in movies. She knew that she could use any information to find her own way out or at least buy some time.
When they finally reached the penthouse, an impressive room unfolded before them. The living room was huge, luxuriously furnished, and one entire wall was made of windows, offering a breathtaking view of New York's rooftops. The city's lights were beginning to twinkle, and for a moment, Catarina forgot where she was. Her eyes widened in amazement as she took in the overwhelming view. Tony had never invited her to the tower, and now she understood why her brother had been so enthusiastic about his retreat. But this moment of fascination ended abruptly when Loki appeared beside her and broke the silence with his deep voice.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" he said with a hint of pride in his voice as he looked out the window himself. Then he turned back to her, a sly smile on his lips. "A perfect place for my new kingdom." His gaze narrowed slightly as he looked at her intently. "Do you like the view, Princess?"
Catarina felt her anger brewing inside her. She straightened her shoulders and replied firmly, "You've completely lost it." Her expression was serious, leaving no doubt about her disapproval.
Loki raised an eyebrow, his smile widening. "Don't get so cheeky. I could have just as easily left you to bleed out on the ground, like your friend." His words were a sharp jab, and Catarina had to force herself to keep her composure.
She knew he was right. Her wound had been crudely tended to, and she could still feel the dried bloodstain clinging to her skin under her suit. But nothing in this world could make her join him. "I'd rather die," she hissed, looking him straight in his icy blue eyes.
Loki let out a short, wicked laugh. "That can be arranged," he said coolly before turning away from her and returning to the window wall. Catarina seized the opportunity to glance quickly at her restraints, wondering if she had a chance to free herself. But she had to quickly gather her thoughts.
