THEY GOT A NEW ONE.
DELILAH-JANE, despite her brother's protesting, had her feet kicked up on the dashboard, her cowboy boots thrown in the backseat with Boone, who was editing a video for their channel. She had the window down, letting the sounds of Brad Paisley flow through the air that was growing heavier and heavier as they neared an oncoming storm.Curled up on her lap was a Bluetick Hound named Daisy, and she had her head out the window. DJ brought her everywhere, refusing to leave her at home with her parents on the farm.
As the storm season continued, more and more storms were popping up in Oklahoma. So, the Tornado Wrangler crew packed up their cars and left Arkansas. It was DJ's first time traveling with the YouTubers that her brother worked with.
Sure, she'd been managing their content creator brand for years remotely while she worked at her degree in marketing. But now, she was freshly graduated at twenty-one and ready to become an honorary storm chaser.
Even though she'd never actually been inside a tornado, she was sort of excited. She wanted to be part of her older brother's world, who she practically idolized.
As the truck finally reached their destination, DJ pulled her heart-shaped sunglasses down her nose and looked at the truck stop. Her brother told her they'd be spending a lot of time there chasing the storms in the area, so she knew she needed to get familiar with it. She hoped that the diner attached to the gas station served good food.
Tyler had been there before, so when she asked, he assured her that they served breakfast all day — her favorite. She could eat pancakes for every meal, them drowned in sweet syrup.
As they pulled into the parking lot, Tyler honked his horn obnoxiously to get attention. There were already a few other cars gathered, amateur storm chasers wanting to try their hand with how many tornados were popping up. But DJ also noticed a fleet of pristine white vehicles with the name Storm PAR painted across the sides.
Tyler and Boone had told her all about the crew that they'd run into a few other times while chasing in Oklahoma. And DJ's brother made sure she knew what they were really collecting all that data for. They were giving that data to a land developer named Marshall Riggs who also had a habit of swooping in and buying land from people whose lives were just destroyed by a tornado.
