MUCH to Tyler's happiness, they pulled out of the gas station before Javi and Scott's crew, all thanks to Kate's inability to be inconspicuous. He even honked mockingly as they drove out first.
Tyler was speeding down a dirt road, a fleet of white cars behind them that were slowly catching up. DJ was squished between Lily and Ben in the back seat, listening intently as Lily reported on what Cairo was seeing.
"Uh, Kate must've seen the storm too. They just passed Dexter and Dani," she told them.
"So, what's the deal with her?" Ben asked curiously.
DJ watched how her brother's jaw rolled, clearly annoyed with the reporter for asking. "Why don't we focus on our story, Ben?"
"Sorry, she's just... intriguing," he muttered before moving on, staring at the clouds forming. "What is it exactly that's happening up there?"
That was all it took for Tyler to launch into his lecture about how tornados formed. And DJ just listened, in awe of his passion for storms. She'd never get over seeing him like this. Sometimes he was an asshole, especially when it came to Scott, but she still loved him and the work that he did that made him so happy.
"It's part science — part religion," he finished, and DJ giggled as Boone kissed his fingertips and put them to the sky.
They all watched as the beginning of a funnel began to slowly descend from the sky, all of them on the edge of their seat, hoping it would give them something. Tyler and Boone were practically begging right up until it touched down.
"There we go, Ben!" Tyler shouted excitedly.
"Yeah!" Lily yelled.
"Hey! See that? That's a tornado right there, baby!" Boone exclaimed, looking back at the reporter, who had his camera out. "Get some photos of that, Ben."
Ben was laughing as he took the photos, shaking some of his nerves about the bad weather as they got closer.
"The birth of a tornado. Nature's masterpiece," Tyler said.
"Hey," DJ said, leaning closer. "What's that?"
A second, smaller funnel was coming down to the right of the first one, something DJ had never seen. Two tornados forming at once.
"Please tell me you guys are seeing this right now," Lily said in awe, having a better view from the done.
"Oh! We got twins!" Boone hollered.
"We have twins!" Tyler laughed.
"Twins!" Boone screamed, practically coming out of his seat.
"Is - is that normal?" Ben asked with a smile. "Oh!"
