DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO EMBARRASSING?

THE smile couldn't be wiped from DJ's face the next morning, and no one, not even Tyler or Boone, could get her to say why she was in such a good mood. They all sat at a huge table in the diner, getting ready for another day of chasing. The whole time, DJ just responded to every question regarding her plans for their social media platforms with a blissful smile on her face.

And across the diner was a table full of Storm PAR nerds, Scott and Javi included.

DJ and Scott made sure to sit so that they could see each other. Scott would steal looks at her any time Javi was distracted, and though he didn't smile at her so openly, when he caught her gaze the first time, he nodded to her with a soft look in his blue eyes, and she practically melted.

With her legs crossed and foot hanging out in the open, she couldn't help but trace hearts in the air with her toe, not taking her eyes off the man.

"Oh, hey, D," Boone said, getting her attention. "Dex made this hilarious joke last night for the Twitter. You've gotta use it."

"Okay," DJ said, that dreamy smile still on her face as she looked at Dexter. It was fine to look away anyhow, as Scott and Javi were getting up to leave. "Lay it on me—"

"What the fuck is that?" Tyler asked as she angled her head, suddenly exposing the underside of her jaw as her blonde hair fell away.

But she didn't understand at first, just staring at her brother in confusion. "What's what?"

"Holy shit!" Dani snickered, pulling DJ's hair back more. "Baby Owens has a hickey!"

DJ went red, and so did Tyler. He'd done his best, really, to ignore all the looks that had transpired over breakfast. But he wasn't stupid. He knew only one person could've given the deep, dark bruise to his sister.

His baby sister.

Boone was in the middle of making a joke at DJ's expense when Tyler stood up abruptly, nearly knocking his chair over. Then he reared around and set his eyes on Scott, who froze, mid-conversation with Javi, knowing that Tyler had connected the dots.

Well, one dot, at least. He was still a dumbass most of the time.

"I thought I told you to stay away from my sister!" Tyler practically shouted as he marched up to Scott, DJ rushing up behind him.

"Ty! Just leave it!" she yelled, grabbing the back of his shirt.

But he just tore himself free and reached Scott, whose jaw was tight. Tyler grabbed the front of his crisp shirt and pulled him closer, only for Scott to wrap his hands around his wrists and pull him off.

Usually, Tyler was always the intimidating one. But Scott had a whole four inches on Tyler and didn't look even the slightest bit intimidated.

"You don't want to start down that road, Owens," Scott said, shaking his head. "Let it go."
